Are there any summer gloves that have protection on the 2 outside fingers?

There’s so many pointy things out there at the moment.

Have you considered hand guards?

I'm interested in this to, that feeling when a bramble branch catches your hand and drags between your fingers, aaargh.

I reckon I'd invest if this went on Dragons Den. I picked up a long sleeve jersey silly cheap in a Polaris sale that has protection on the arms, and it's been fantastic when the nettles and brambles take over.

Also need a lightweight trouser version to protect my shins

Its not really a summer glove, but i use 100% Briskers if i need some thorn protection. I find the Briskers surprisingly tolerable to wear in just about any weather.

Got thinking that i could modify my existing gloves so bought these.

Depending on size i will either sew one to the fingers on my glove or wear them inside. It is really only my little finger that gets attacked.

Trouble is, it's not just fingers 4 and 5. Grazed a bush much harder than seemed feasible, and had a thorned (and I fear a broken) middle finger knuckle. So have been looking at long fingered armoured gloves - but too hot. Have been reading hand guard threads on here - but ugly, and $$.

I guess hand guards are the sensible option but i will get ribbed about it. I only have the one bike though so that helps.

reckon I'd be glueing on some cut-up innertube instead if I felt the need for those things

Just read the handguard review posted today in the mag, and was gungho to order a pair - but sold out everywhere - someone is obviously using handguards. 6 weeks for Crankbros to restock 🙁

My Endura Singletrack gloves have thicker material on the back and a degree of rubbery protection around the knuckles which offers some protection, a bit warmer than 'summer' gloves but then thats the trade off. But yes, handguards may well be the way forward.

It isnt just the hands either, I find the brambles bounce off my hand and work their way up my arm before ripping the inside of my elbow or my shoulder/armpit to shreds.

I think a chainmail armour suit may be the way forward.

At least it isn't muddy eh!

It's always been that way. Inside of the elbow bramble scars are the mark of a mountain biker. Fresh ones mean you've not long enjoyed a ride 😀
