thomson seat clamp orientation? suggests running it the opposite way?

after much dramas with the crap hope bolt up seat clamp that kept slipping - i got a shiny nice silver thomson one to replace it, i wouldnt usually read the instructions but was making sure i got the NM right before tightening, and noticed it says to position on a carbon frame 180 degrees the opposite way

is this specific to thomson clamps on carbon frames? ive never in my life run one the 'wrong' way round, and now its fitted it looks a bit naff, would prefer to run it the normal way, but dont want slippage!

thoughts?

I've always run the split in my seat clamp the same way around as the slot in the seat tube, but I've seen plenty do it the other way around (and even a few frames where the seat tube slot is at the back).

I have seen it suggested that with a carbon post in a metal frame, having the clamp slot over the seat tube slot can lead to the edges of the seat tube slot digging into the post, but I don't know if there's any truth to this.

I've always just put the slot at the front to keep some mud out.
This is not infallible

Ps. The one on my Salsa (slot at the front) is a Thomson (with the slot also at the front) and it's been fine.
That's titanium rather than carbon though, Thomson Masterpiece aluminium seatpost

Not sure quite how much difference it really makes, but I've mostly run mine 180deg to the slot. The principal is it should clamp the post more evenly by constricting it around the circumference rather than just clamping on one side.

Some frames even have two slots ~120deg apart so the bolt and the slots don't ever overlap whichever way round you put it.

This generally me too. My new Cascade has a seat tube with a bolt in it though so no need for a seperate seat clamp. I'm not sure if this is a better design or not....Slot and bolt are at the front though.

Put it to the side like the fresh prince!

cool so not abnormal then ive personally never seen this or done it before but plenty of you have - a good point about the mud too, as it does clog up in split on the frame and also on the clamp itself, which running it 180 will keep all of that crap out at least in winter

hopefully it will stop my dropper slipping down now - only requires 2.8nm compared to the 8nm the hope one wanted (and still slipped!) - not sure how it can be such amount different but im a bit skeptical 2.8nm will keep it up but shall see!
