Got some forks pretty cheap on t'internet.

However the steerer is shorter than my old forks and I'm worried I may come up a wee bit short for the Stem Clamp.

What Headsets are "thinner"?

Edit I know I will not change the ride position just trying to get more bite for the clamp.

Ritchey are reasonably 'thin'

I think 'low stack height' is the technical term.
Also look for thinner stems, eg Ritchey, Raceface.

Hope and CK headsets are fatter, as are Easton stems.

I did the same thing, the lowest stack height I found was the Crank Brothers Iodine. 21mm IIRC. Combined with the Danger Boy Howitzer stem, no steerer tube is too short.

be careful that the knobs on the fork don't foul your tubing

I had exactly this problem and discovered that a) the word you're looking for is 'stack height' and b) the lowest stack height headset is made by Crank Brothers and is 11mm. I've been running one of the Cobalt (DH) Headsets on my Bulit since January. It's been faultless, looks good and weighs nothing. Highly recommended. You might as well get the DH one, as in all honesty they all look identical.

go the stainless version of the CB headset, the anodized ones get surface rust pretty quickly... also, CB headsets are a little tricky to home install apparently, you need a good press to make sure they go in perfectly straight, otherwise they'll split.

Good headset though, certainly the lowest stack height around...
