If your commute runs west-east, if there is snow on the ground and it is the first commute of the year with sun over the horizon, you can't see a darned thing for the glare!
I never get a commuting puncture on a warm sunny evening just outside a pub.
Packing latex gloves with your spare inner tubes is actually quite a good idea with a sub zero windchill.
Walking into the office plastered in snow gets you some weird looks! (The sun/glare problem went away while I was fixing the puncture)
