..... Buggered if I can find it though...!
The one where a load of chaps built a full size balance bike for a teenager with learning disabilities. And it looked ace!
Can anyone else remember it? Or what it was called?

Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

Just wanted to show someone the awesomeness that can happen when you let blokes in sheds loose. ๐Ÿ™‚

Top tip - search with google, not the STW search...

This, and if you add: "site:singletrackworld.com" onto the end of the search terms it only looks on here too!

Though tbh I find that a lot of completely unrelated searches still direct back here, such is the breadth of STW forum information/drivel...

Hello!

I think the project was a lot of fun and very rewarding for everyone involved - certainly one of the best things I've ever done. And thanks again for all the nice comments. If you do find the thread then maybe give it a bump - Ronan might have some updates.

It was actually built in a garage not a shed! (and brazed with bottles at work) ๐Ÿ™‚

Once weather is fit to assemble it, I've got a sturdy flat pack metal shed (fireproof) and some home-safe brazing equipment so I can build everything in one place.....

Hi mick, I'm new on here but that was such a great thread. Both me and the mrs was grinning like idiots when we got to the picture of the lad on his bike. It's great that people still like to help others as a selfless action. Fair play and a job well done. It would be nice to know that theres still people like you out there. ๐Ÿ˜€

That's great. I've just started teaching cycling to young people with disabilities. One of those is just what I could do with. I've inherited a pile of bikes one of which I was going to loose the drivetrain for a balance only bike.

Have a try with stripped down frames, but if you have any problems then feel free to drop me an email (should be in my profile).

We found saddle needs to be really really low to get a good scoot (legs need to be bent at the knee with feet flat on ground). This also means ankles and knees are flailing past bb / chainstays etc (so some people might not get on with a regular frame).

Thanks Mick, we have had one 17 year old riding from scratch, a adult size balance would have helped enormously. The other thing for us is that it may not come to pedalling and getting on the road/trail but the process of a balance bike can do wonders for wider issues both physical and in confidence, not to mention fun!
I may well be in touch, I'm going to put it to management that we invest in something like this.

IIRC I originally found this site while looking for a solution to mice in the loft!

I don't think it will need much investment - at the most just a suitable donor bike. I'm using a different powder coater now but could hopefully get that free again so long as not fussy about the colour (send it through with a batch of other stuff).
