You're having a laff, right?

There's LOADS!

There's Cinnamon Girl Downs/Swinley area rides, Oldfart and Knotties Quantocks bimbles, IHN's Cotswold Massiv, Rich Penny and his mates Purbeck rides at least, off the top of my head!
And the Big Bike Bash is a direct result of WCA throwing an open house in 2008.....

I've done a couple in my area, but they're usually invite only for various reasons

I shall be on the Purbecks ride if the weather is kind, but I'll be on holiday for the Wincheter one.

I think it's mainly because Southerners are generally miserable and unfriendly, and prefer to ride by themselves, moaning about stuff, whereas Northerners are all much more friendly and cheerful, and like to get together a lot! ๐Ÿ˜€

Mulletus - Nah, busy that weekend

Dr P - Chinese tonight?

Talkemada - I thought it was because its not dark, cold and scary down here, so we're not afraid to go out on our own ๐Ÿ™‚

And no twisty singletrack in the North**. ๐Ÿ˜‰

**Disclaimer - I can say that with impunity because I am a Midlander. ๐Ÿ˜›

Beware though! We're OLD ...

Isn't that just because life expectancy is much shorter, the further north you go?

Yes, they die early due to their flat caps falling over their eyes and they ride off the edge of a mountain

We used to have plenty of STW meets in Woburn going right back to the first days of the mag.

Totally off topic, but: I used to live on a farm in Northumberland. Two girls came to stay with us from Glasgow. We noticed they had each brought a pair of flip flops and a torch. When we asked them why they said that they thought we might not have electricity or carpets (because we lived in the country)! True.

We have loads but we don't advertise them all because we don't want you all coming down here and getting sunburnt, and showing us up with your presumably better skills, fitness and looks.

I remember the Woburn rides of yore to which oldgit refers; there was many a fine get together in the Forest of Dean too 'back in the day'.

Where you based odannyboy?

Whereabouts in the flatlands as a local to me ride would be good. I'm Suffolk based and there are hills just not very steep or big ones!
