Because marks on seat posts can rub off or get difficult to see, whereas finding the maximum extension on a loop of velcro is pretty easy to find ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd never buy one, but the the idea is good. I'm looking at what I can pilfer from work tomorrow for a bodge

I know them as "Matt Straps" as they were "invented" (I use the term loosely) by Matt Sherwin (former xc racer type and still poohot on a bike up and down).

I knocked one up for the Mega last year - bit of spare gear cable and a couple of electrical crimps to hold loops in the ends. You can raise and lower your saddle on the go with a bit of practise, or you can just yank it up when you stop. Great for night riding too, as you don't need to try and find a little mark on your seatpin by torch light.

I use a strip of rubber, cable tied to the seat post, to cover the slot in the seat tube and it acts as a guide when I raise the saddle again. I suppose I could tie it round the seat tube as well to save having to look at it.

String/Twine would still be lighter...

I have had a mark and number tattooed on my hip to show the right height for the saddles on each of the 38 bikes I've owned over the years.
no need for silly bits of velcro...

I'll probably do it with a bit of string and tiewraps then. Seems like a more usefull thing to do rahter than buy a joplin or gravity dropper, since what can actually happen to a peice of string apart from it breaking.
