you drive somewhere, ride, get filthy, its cold, there's no bike wash and you want to keep your car clean:

ok so I want one of these:

2x wheel bags, square and double seamed on the bottom, rear upright then stitched halfway up the front upright. waterproof and tear resistant fabric, the unstitched parts to be sealed by velcro.

thats what I'd stick my muddy wheels in. then:

a long bag, two triangles at the rear connecting to one long triangle and a vertical oblong for the forks. All double stitched up and along the base, the top of the bag again joined up with velcro, a separate bag to put the saddle and seat post in.

I could then just pull the wheels off the bike, chuck it all in a bag, stow it in the car, drive home, wash bike later.

why does this product not exist? (you need to be able to turn it inside out and hose it down, thick padding is not required, this is a car bag not a flight case!

someone must be able to knock these up? I'd buy a couple!!

Stick a car bike-rack on your wedding present list, I'm sure the soon-to-be Mrs Nutt won't mind :o)

Take wheels of and put in boot, and the frame inside a single duvet cover on the back seats.

close Gozy, but I'd like one that was bags that I could carry indoors if I really couldn't be arsed to clean it or it was too late or cold etc then I could trip over it in the morning and carry it back outside and reassemble and hose down the bike & bag the next day after work

mavic wheelbags and an elastic band..

The elastic band is for scraping your entire bike squeeky clean, takes surprisingly little time to do all the main tubes and forks.

How much water do you think stays on the bike?!

I just place a sheet on the floor of the boot, It's barely even damp when i get the bike out an hour or two later.

MTFU!

I bought a large cheap bike bag from ebay, no padding, so easy to clean out, and a cheap wheel bag = problem solved.

The bag's big enough to put the whole bike in minus the wheels and only cost £25 🙂

Ride your bike to the ride and ride it home again. The car stays spotless then.

I can see the logic in that mike but the swarms of hooded youth, soft air snipers, burning mattresses and discarded "smalls" are only fun to ride around for so long 😀

Get a Thule Roof Rack. Expensive but possibly the best bike related thing I have bought - 2 seconds to chuck em on the roof wheels and all, and one clean car.

Problem is you then end up taking three peole in one car and still have a muddy bike in the back. But then my car hs 110000 miles on the clock and I beleive in tough love for cars!

Jenga you're very close but I think the wheel bags need to be separate from the frame/forks bag, to maximize efficient use of space

I have a thule hangy-off-the-back thing but it worries me and long distances would result in me having a nervous breakdown!! plus its silly having 3k's worth of bikes hanging of the back of a £600.00 car!! 😀

You can get the wheel bags on their own. I have two, and they are really very good, but I just put the frame in the back of the car. Surprisingly it doesn't make a lot of muck. I use the wheel bags to stop everything banging about against each other. They also make good mats to stand on at the end of a ride!!!

a spare sheet does the job for me. when I get fed up with that I could get a mattress polythene bag, but have a bike rack so no bother 🙂

Its only a car, hoover it when it gets too dirty and has dried etc.

OR get a larger car and stash it all in the boot. Not so bad if that gets cacked up.

Of buy one of those weed killer pump up water thingies from B&Q and bring your own (low power) jet wash.

I use a 4 x 5m tarp in the back of my car. Line the inside of the car with it, chuck the frame in, then fold more tarp on top, put the wheels in, then the final bit of tarp on the top to cover over the bike for when you've stopped somewhere. Under a fiver, and far quicker and easier to use than the 70 quid boot rack that's gathering dust.

I think they are only £4-5ish.

Two big tarps in my car as well, easily covers 2-3 bikes, stops them scratching each other and stops the mud getting over my car. Just shake them out once in a while.

rockthreegozy, how thick is that tarp thing at MTB direct? It looks pretty good but not sure how resilient it would be to a chainring spiking it.

I've got the MTBdirect tarp thing. It's nice and thick - i've yet to puncture it.
It's got little suckers to stick it to the windows, and holes for the headrest to 'slide through' so you can make a neat little 'kill room' in the boot of your car!
I often have it doubled up, then put bike in, fold it over, and put wheels in.

It's perfect at keeping the rear of the car clean, and can be hosed down whenever.

I had a similar problem with putting my bike in me motor, saw this on bike radar http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/grimy-tranny-just-greasebag-it-14449 ,i also bought a fork bag from there website (www.greasebag.co.uk). didn't see any wheel bags though, but they do say they'll do custom jobs

Am i missing something here? Why can't you just use a standard bike bag? I have exactly the same requirements as you (eg keep the car clean while putting a muddy bike in the car) so I just put my bike in the bike bag after a ride I've driven to and that's it. Take it out at home and clean it.

Something like this:

>why does this product not exist?<

Cos the problem only exists in the minds of the "bike wash / gadget for everything" minority like yourself?

MTFU and buy a big cheap tarp or clean your bike in a river

My mate has a big yellow bag he got from B&Q.
Its like one of those bags that sand gets delivered in (lots of sand)
I think its to fill with rubbish then phone someone and they come and take your rubbish.
Anyway, it fits in the back of his car, is hard wearing and stops the mud and stuff getting on the inside of his nice shiny car.
Cheap too IIRC

I was gonna say the same as Clubber. Just get a big bike bag (my Neil Pryde one came with 2 wheel bags) and shove your dirty bike in there.

Personally, I just use an old Ikea bed sheet to line the back of the car to stop it getting too dirty.

that lovely New Zealand compand Ground effect do a really nice 'Body Bag' which will take a bike with front wheel out. Then get a separate front wheel bag.

Job done.

My mate uses a patio furniture cover from B&Q. It works well because of the sides, lots of sizes available from places like ebay for about a tenner.

Big pack of cling film. Doesn't take up too much space, can wrap the bike as efficiently as you want, will hopefully take the mud off your bike with it when you remove it, and could also wrap an extra slice of cake to eat when you get home.

(Actually - I thought I was joking, but that could work...)

Personally i'm in the drive my car to death/i don't care what goes in it school of thought. However my mate uses an empty one of these - [img] [/img]

empty 1.5 tonne skip bag approximately 1.5 x 1 x 1 Fits a bike with the wheels take off with a minimum of fuss. Think it cost him a tenner in B&Q too so not exactly expensive.

when I cared, I bought one of those garden sprays from B&Q, the kind that you fill with water and then pump up by hand and just left it in the boot of my car.

Like this.
http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/garden-accessories/challenge-5-litre-pressure-sprayer.asp

Also get a soft floor brush, from B&Q as well. The bottle above will get most of the crud off two bikes are properly clean one. And if you're near a river you can repeatedly fill it up.

You'd have to drive a bit more carefully to avoid sloshing, but speak nicely to the lady and she might get her kids to wash your bike on the way home.
