I noticed the ads thing too this morning and also the "last post: 2 mins ago" column was missing so it was hard to see newish replies. Then realised I had been logged out out. Logged back in and the "last post" bit was back but still got the video ad in bottom RH corner.
Also we definitely need a "jump to end of thread" option.
Test reply from my alt account!
This post from my free account has shown up within a couple of minutes.
Posts from my paid account take 3+ hours. So if this delay connected to still having the old forum data running in the background?
I think it means "hot topic" i.e. a thread with lots of activity on it.
That usually also means argument, though?

pretty please someone tell me how to post images from 'postimages' please !
I think I'm seeing people quoting from posts I can't see yet so I wonder if we're all seeing the same thing (there's certainly a difference to what posts you see between being logged in or out).
Also we definitely need a "jump to end of thread" option.
There’s a small white > after the thread title, click that and it will jump to the end.
The Forum Overview page now looks totally unbalanced with an big advert between Chat and News. Free version

@iainc The last couple of images I posted a couple of days ago were a straight screen copy & paste into the text field, so no need to bother with post images any more. I'm assuming that still works.
Test -
sorry to report that my own posts arent showing up in threads, even an hour after posting. I'm seeing very few new posts also, currently the forum is unusuable 🙁
Well that seemed to still be working. Took a little while to appear at the moment but I'm sure that will all be ironed out eventually.
Anyone else getting the annoying video advert pop-up on the bottom RHS?
I don't want a blender thanks......

Yep, logged in as a member and getting a random rolling advert.
Yup same
I'm not seeing the video advert. I do find the double hamburger menus top left a bit confusing. It's not obvious which one will have the link you're looking for in it and there is some duplication anyway. Probably best to combine them?
The email 4 new replies was me. Hold up my hands. It used to say 'subscribe'. Can do again. here's my thoughts.
The word subscribe has two meanings on Singletrack. I was trying to remove ambiguity. You are not subscribing to singletrack magazine when you click that button. You are saying you want to receive email updates to a topic.
What do you think? am I overthinking it? is there a better phrase we can use?
Reminder. Anthony (and his broken foot) is working on the long delay after posting today.
'Get e-mail alerts for this thread'
The use of '4' as a numeral was quite confusing too.
I don't think I have *helpful* feedback as such, but wanted to at least mention it... It looks like you're trying out different layouts for the forum landing page, shifting away from the initial view where how long the OP has been a member was shown under each thread title (which led to me thinking a bunch of long-dead threads had been resurrected), and so on.
I can't put my finger on why, but it's still not quite as easily navigable as the pre-transition forum. I think it may partly be a case of not having a thread post/ page count as the old forum had - you could see at a glance which threads were attracting a lot of chat, and which had just started out. The thread age/ when it started has shifted over to the right, so I reckon that'll be easy to learn over time; but a post count would be useful.
Also, not hugely important, but a few weeks back "singletrackworld.com/forum" stopped working and instead the way to find the forum index/ landing page was "singletrackworld.com/community". Now I see "singletrackworld.com/forum/<...>" is the way to get there. Is that going to remain the way in?
Thanks!
agree on the double hamburger point! It's been needling me too.
The video ads in the bottom right seems to have gone for me now, which is definitely a good thing. The less flashing on screen when my boss is sat behind me the better 😉
Any luck with narrowing down the 1 hour+ delay for a post to appear after submitting it? I'm liking all the other changes, but that's the biggie that's stopping the forum being usable.
I've finally snapped and deactivated ALL ADS!
Found myself battling against a system that insisted on putting ads in exactly the wrong places and video ads showing when the controls in the dashboard clearly implied they weren't. I'm done. It's a very expensive thing to do and right now we are not in a good place to cope with ad downtime but we can't focus on the forum migration properly with the ads fudging everything up.
If you appreciate this time with no ads while we work on the posting delay issue then by all means browse our merch, donations always welcome, subscribe - There's a magazine you know!
Mark (Stressed to f./..)
Step away and take a break Mark, it's no easy task this, and for what it's worth I think you're doing a pretty good job 🙂
I think I may go subscribe
Cheers!
I'm very appreciative of everyone's patience and I understand the frustration from your side all to well. I'm one o fthe heaviest users of the forum - not as heavy as Cougar but still, my meta table is massive!
but still, my meta table is massive!
I bet you say that to all the girls 😉
Having a lot of issues with accidental double posts as sometimes it'll time out when replying, so I create another then it all updates and I get either 2 versions of my reply, or that plus another double post for good measure 🙂
It seems to me that there is some sort of RNG at work; my posts either disappear into the ether for a couple of hours, then appear twice, or don't appear at all.
Oh, but that last one appeared almost instantly. Fingers crossed that today's efforts have removed the blockages.
I’ve been noticing replies not appearing, but as has been reported above, they do seem to be appearing after a while - my most recent comment was on the Elon Musk thread, it says elsewhere that I’ve posted, but I can’t see it, so I’ll go away and play elsewhere and let Mark work his magic on what is obviously recalcitrant software!
Well, I’m happy, from the overview I can go to the last post immediately now.
On desktop, at the end of a thread I was then able to use the “latest posts” link to go straight back to overview without having to scroll to the top (still miss the “skip to the top” option that was on one of the prior versions. Mainly cos I had the mental image of gnarly bikers skipping about).
Trying to see how to do it on iPhone as the “latest posts”’ link isn’t showing
👍
plus emojis back
Seems to be working a lot better now! 👍
Is the blue colour staying or is that getting changed? I struggle to read what it says at times
Hmmm - still working better as a free member (with no history).
I quite like the new forum, maybe not as many ads coming at me from all corners at speed, nothing that I want to buy or date a granny
I hate to say it but I’m struggling my with the appearance of the forum on iOS 18 Safari. May just take some time for my eyes to adjust but it doesn’t feel intuitive.
I can only imagine how awkward and frustrating a job this is, best of luck and I certainly don't mind seeing a few ads when I shouldn't be while you work things out.
just testing the speed
Still completely variable for me. I posted on the Badger Divide thread and my response appeared within seconds. Then I posted on the Moral Dilemma thread and it's been 15 minutes or so without seeing my post (though I am apparently the last person to post).
Testing again - but as scotroutes ^^^ is still seems all over the place.
EDIT - this showed up almost straight away, and it must be working for most as I can see there's more activity. 🤷♂️
Wednesday AM update:
The downtime -server can't be reached - was likely when I clicked on deactivate instead of settings on a critical plugin - ie. the problem was clearly located at some point between chair and keyboard. My bad there.
Frustrating day yesterday but we have VIP engineers helping us right now. Changes to server have been made. A buffer somewhere has been increased (that's beyond me). That means hitting 'like' now takes just a few seconds to show up (It should be almost instant but it's better than the loooong waits of yesterday).
That still leaves the big one. The reason it takes almost exactly 1 minute for a post to go through and the related issue of why the cache doesn't refresh to allow you to see your new post. That's what we want to fix today.
While we fix that, be assured that in actual fact as soon as you hit reply your post enters the database and we have it, even if you can't see it until I refresh the cache. So, try to avoid hitting submit again. I know.. I know.. But we are making progress. Slower than I'd like but I'm confident we are close.
Cheers
Mark
To be clear @mark, my comments above are meant as feedback, not criticism. I'm hoping that they help provide an ongoing status or to narrow down problem issues.
Taken as intended, thanks 🙂
We are about to move our DNS. Currently it's running through Ezoic (ads). Best way to explain this...
When your browser wants to load the forum this is the path it takes..
Your Browser ------> Ezoic ---------> Singletrack
And when our server gets your request it reverses the process.
Singletrack -------> Ezoic ----------> Your browser.
So you can see that Ezoic sits inbetween us and you. This is so they can inject the ads into the page and our server just has to deliver the rest rather than doing both.
Theory is good. Reality is not great. We don;t get to control exactly where we want to see ads. The EZoic controls I have seemed to stop working yesterday and I frankly lost my shit.
We are going to switch thinsg around and essentailly do it this way.
You <---------> Us
Ezoic can sit it out on the sidelines and give us codes that WE will put on the site where we think are best.
This means telling our host that the address of our site is now over here and not over there anymore. This is what changing our DNS settings boils down to. These address changes are a bit like the address changes you do with the post office when you move and in the real world it takes maybe a day for everyone's browsers and internet providers and all the complicated internet things to catch up with our new address.
So, you may start to see some funny things when you visit us in the next day. Your browser may try and get some parts of the page from our old address and some from the new address. Things could get a bit screwy for a time. This can't be avoided, but we are looking forward to having a direct relationship with your browser very soon.
