I woke up this morning and thought I would pedal into work. First time, no rush as it was a late start revision session.
Got out the Wanga, all 8 speeds of it and set off, as usual I couldn't pedal slowly and was making fantastic time for my 16 mile journey.
Crossing the Tyne Bridge into Low Fell my mech was a bit noise, but otherwise no suspicious activity.
As I got further into Low Fell, my chain snapped, so I decided to cut my loses and head home.
On crossing the tyne bridge again, there was a bang and my chain snapped again, this time though it had ripped the rear mech arm off and pulled it out of the hanger.
A bodged singles speed later, and I pedalled 4 miles home with my bike hunting up and down the cassette until it found a cog it liked and stuck in place.
Ah well.
Hannibal had the same problem crossing the Alps by the way, better luck tomorrow.
That's lucky. You got that out of the way on day one. Means that you'll be trouble free for at least the next 18 months.
if you will try to commute on a geared bike, it serves you right, just as well you dont have discs or it could have been much worse..
I hope so.
Got to check and see how badly it was ripped out. Looks like it may have knacked the dropout which will be a pest on the wanga as it's that massive sliding unit with no extra hanger.

|I knew it wasn't going to go well when the first time I tried the brakes they didn't stop and squeeled. Looks like they got contaminated at some point when working on another bike....
