As it says really. Got the option of either: A) leaving my torn, painful meniscus alone, putting up with the pain and as a result not really wanting to ride, B) having it repaired (6 month recovery, done once before already, and potentially unlikely to be successful, although if it works l have no more pain and little risk of arthritis), or C) having a subtotal menisectomy (ie more than 50% removed) which should remove the pain short term, but with a great risk of arthritis on the near future ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

MTB'ing kills my knee, and road riding isnt great either as it hurts like buggery when l push over the top of the pedal revolution. I'm worried about having a subtotal op due to the arthritis risk but i'd gladly just stick to the road provided the pain goes away.

Question to the STW hive mind - anyone been in a similar situation?

I'm devoid of one of the meniscuseses in my left knee, have been for the best part of twenty years. I have it in a little jar ๐Ÿ™‚

To be honest, it's rarely any bother. Skiing and football absolutely screw it (understandably), but I do them so rarely that it's not really an issue. Cycling is really good for it as it keeps a decent bit of strength around the knee, although I do find I'm pretty pernickety about saddle height as I need to get a decent leg/knee extension on each pedal revolution or my knee will play up.

As for the arthritis risk, well, I'm 20 years into it and haven't seen anything yet. I'm not saying I never will, and I may be a crock in old age, but then I might a wealth of other conditions anyway, it's called getting old, innit?
