Looks like it. Unless they are putting him in an ambulance to help him catch up with the peloton.
Confirmed that he's out now.
17:23:58 CEST
Bradley Wiggins has climbed into an ambulance and abandoned the Tour de France. It's not clear if he injured his collarbone, his wrist or his elbow (or all three), but in any case, Wiggins' Tour challenge is over.
17:22:32 CEST
Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervelo) also went down in the Wiggins crash, but he is chasing back on to the rear of the peloton in the Vinokourov-Leipheimer group.
17:21:19 CEST
That crash split the peloton, and Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) and Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack) are among the riders caught behind.
17:19:48 CEST
Wiggins sits in the ditch on the side of the road, with a sad look of resignation. A gaggle of Sky riders including Edvald Boasson Hagen had waited, but they've since set off without their leader. Remi Pauriol (FDJ) is also down, and seated at the roadside.
17:18:28 CEST
Chris Horner was also one of the riders down in that incident, although he seemed to be getting back on his bike.
17:17:56 CEST
Wiggins is on his feet, but is moving very gingerly, and he is clutching his left elbow. It looks as though his Tour de France is over.
39km remaining from 215km
17:16:43 CEST
Another crash in the peloton. Bradley Wiggins is down and seems to be suffering from a shoulder injury. He's being examined by the doctor and it's not looking good for the Briton.
Yup just confirmed he has abandoned
Is he def forced to abandon?
It looks like he has abandoned. But even if not the gap is now so big that any chance of being competitive in the GC is out of the question
Gutted
16.20 / 32.5km It looks like broken collar bone for Wiggins. He definitely hasn't got back on his bike and he has abandoned this year's tour. Massively disappointing for Team Sky and a rider who looked in great form.
Target some stage wins then now or just get some practice leading out Cav for 2013?
Suspected broken collar bone.
Been beasting himself and dieting for months then BANG, all over. This is a tough sport.
Mincing footballers everywhere take note.
Have Sky got any climbers in the team? I'd love to see them now focus on Geraint Thomas for GC, or the white jersey at least. If not EBH for some stage wins I guess.
I'm upset. I was really looking forward to watching Wiggo in the hills. Poor bugger, he was doing so well too.
Really sucks.
Cav gets the points at the sprint, now to get reformed for the finish..
Mincing footballers everywhere take note.
Oh please do be quiet. Are you anywhere near any form of professional athletic standard?
Have you ever even played footy?
90 mins of even lower league footy would probbly destroy you. 90 mins of professional footy would destroy a pro cyclist; totally different physical requirements.
Cav is doing his best to bring footy style petulance to pro cycling though...
Will you give it a rest Elf? Cav is a young lad with a motormouth that he tries to control. NOT THAT DIFFERENT TO SOMEONE SITTING NOT A MILLION MILES FROM THIS THREAD! This is ok, we all have our quirks, but we like people anyway ๐
You don't like him, fine, some of us do (after having listened and read about him) so change the record!
Oh please do be quiet. Are you anywhere near any form of professional athletic standard?
Not now but 24yrs ago I was a schoolboy signing for Dundee FC. Then led Scottish infantry soldiers to war.
Do you like apples?
๐
With Brad gone British GC hopes are being carried by Emma P. She's 2nd in the women's Giro with a MTF and TT to go.
Not now but 24yrs ago I was a schoolboy signing for Dundee FC
So what? So, not at any professional standard then.
So be quiet.
Then led Scottish infantry soldiers to war.
WTF has that got to do with owt?
Gutted for Brad, he was looking on form this year and seemed to have a positive mental attitude. Maybe he can rest up and look to getting back on form for the Vuelta now.
HTC train looks good this time.
Mincing footballers everywhere take note.
mcboo - ask Aaron Ramsey if he's a mincing footballer or many of the others who have broken legs etc playing football! Yes you hate football but lots of football people hate boys who ride "pushbikes" so just enjoy your own sport. I like apples too - and pears and oranges and strawberries and peaches ๐
thats a long line of HTC shirts...
think he was in with a chance of getting on the poddium this year
What a pity
Geraint T not in a good spot either right now.
HTC are a joy to watch.
just amazing grit!
Hahahahahaha. Alright mate enough.
Two wins for the footballer/cyclist or whatever, jeez maybe talent really is what matters...
Banana anyone?
That looked like a textbook sprint lead out. Awesome!
Cav is just amazing and total and utter respect - for a pushbike rider hehe.
Gwan Cav! .. The Manx missle strikes again, 17th stage victory, fair play.
"ah shit" Cav
๐
He didn't know about Wiggo til the interviewer asked him.. he was really upset for his mate. That's sport for you.
"ah shit"
"What's your reaction?"
๐ Think he just gave it to you.
Absolutely awful day for Sky, brilliant day for HTC.
1. ROJAS Jose Joaquin MOVISTAR TEAM 167 pts
2. GILBERT Philippe OMEGA PHARMA - LOTTO 156 pts
3. CAVENDISH Mark HTC - HIGHROAD 150 pts
4. HUSHOVD Thor TEAM GARMIN - CERVELO 130 pts
Contador up to 24th, 1 min 42 secs down.
Geraint to 38th, 3 mins 18 secs down.
๐
he's shot up the points table now, 150 behind 167.
EDIT beat me to it.
Cavendish just 17 points behind in the points competition now.
So his green jersey position now looks a lot better.
Oooo hadn't seen those. Interesting
Geraint in 6th in the white jersey competition, 2 mins 58 secs back.

Gutted for wiggins and sky. It's taken G out of the fram as well. He was never going to hold that position in the mountains proper.
I'm hoping that as the plan has gone a bit wrong that the new plan is stage wins. I think they could get another with Boassen Hagen but I'd love to see G get a victory from a breakaway group but that's wishful thinking.
I assume they lost the time after waiting for Wiggins and riding on the rivet to get back on?
I assume they lost the time after waiting for Wiggins and riding on the rivet to get back on?
pretty much yes, they hung around for about 3-4 minutes waiting for Wiggins and then were left trying to get back on whilst the front group were gearing up for the sprint.
HTC were amazing today, all the pace making and then to lead out like that.
elfin... i think you need to frankly jog on ...isnt there a footy forum you should be chuntering on,great win for cav and bugger for brad.
Not a lot of mud clearance on that Orbea. Does nobody design bikes for typical UK conditions?
elfin... i think you need to frankly jog on
Quite frankly, I really don't care what you think.
Anyway, this is a mountain bicycle forum, in case you hadunt noticed.... ๐
Footballer and cyclist:
Geoff Thomas. A proper hard man.
yeah but as far as im aware your mocking of the other chap was unfounded...footballers in generally are alot less fit that professional cyclists.
Specialized pioneered (well according to them, a few years ago..) that sort of seatstay on their TT bike, its an aero thing to help try to reduce the profile of the bike.
Cav would be even closer without the ridiculous point deduction :l
You don't like him, fine, some of us do (after having listened and read about him) so change the record!
After watching him today, and hearing his comments, I have a new-found respect for him. He's definitely grown up, and his comments about teamwork were spot on, and good on him for reminding everyone that it's a team effort, and I think he showed a lot of humility (he should really try to refrain from commenting on what others say though but I can understand him feeling a bit miffed).
His reaction to hearing about Wiggo showed a selfless and considerate nature, and he was visibly upset at hearing the sad news.
When he went for it, he seemed to be in a higher gear than Griepel, but just powered forward. Phenomenal. Different league.
So yeah; Go Cav! ๐
He often says stuff like that - and he means it too, his first thing after the finish was to round up his team mates for celebration.. I watched him all last tour and read his tweets and he was nice then too - definitely grown up a bit since the early days but of course he was only a kid then.
You're right about commenting on what other people say but really, as fans it's what we all want to hear - much more interesting than 'no comment' ๐
Can't believe how bummed I am about poor Wiggo tho - really like him, and he came through some hard times to get here.
Not a lot of mud clearance on that Orbea. Does nobody design bikes for typical UK conditions?
Designed and sold in Spain, sold in the USA. I don't think the UK has a big enough share of sales to demand design changes.
Orbea are ace.
Feel really really sorry for wiggins and gutted we couldn't see how he'd have done with the steep stuff. Well done to cav and team but today is one of sorrow. ๐
Phew! What a day. Gutted for Bradley - and he'd done so much prep before this tour (couldn't believe he'd lost even more weight!). Pretty bad for young Geraint as well - dropped well down in the rankings now. Impressive display from
the HTC boys - formulaic but so effective! Cav's comments about his team and his reaction to first hearing the news about Wiggins were spot on.
Been pretty eventful so far, can't believe we're only at Stage 7.
(.... wanders off to fettle road bike before long ride through the mountains over Pen y Pass tomorrow - living out my TdF fantasies ๐ )
He's on the highlights now being interviewed looked like he was on some strong painkillers. Seemed very cheerful considering.
I think Brad might weigh even less than you, Sue! ๐ฏ
No he can't really, but blimey he's got skinny.
Cavs in a different league altogether this tour, I was really impressed with his last stage win, taking the classics specialists at the last minute when he looked like he was out of it, all on his own in the last 1km as well.....
Gutted for Wiggo, not sure how he was going to go but the Dauphine win was a good indicator of form.
Edit - I think someone has hacked Elfin's account ๐
Why do you think that?
Elfin - I think he'd gone down to only 69kg. Actually, in which case, what a porker in comparison - I am a mere 45kg!
*sigh* Ok, I accept that he is a towering 6'2 of sinewy muscle, and I a titchy 5' of insufficient fitness (and fueled by wine, cheese and crackers - diet of champions)
wiggo to win the vuelta? certainly a more achievable objective and would be good to use his current form.
Anyway, this is a mountain bicycle forum, in case you hadunt noticed
nope, it says "Bike" forum actually, scroll to the top and take a gander
Yeah, alright cleverclogs; what does the banner above say? Hmm?
Would that be 'Singletrack MOUNTAIN BIKE magazine? Would it? Hmm?
I think it would be, don't you?
But Sue; you look a lot healthier, I must say.
Geoff Thomas. A proper hard man.
Chain in the little ring, what looks like triathlon shoes, and stem not slammed?
Hmmm.
Apart from all the handbags on here gutted for wiggins... reckon he could have been a top 3???
As for Cav... that mans got some legs of steel ๐
Elf, this is a forum (bike forum) on the in-ter-net, a MAGAZINE is made of paper and you it isn't interactive like these threads are ( trying to make it simple for you, apologies to the more intelligent)
Sorry for being too clever for you "Hmm?"
Has this years race been worse than others for crashes/injuries so far?
The last 3 days have been absolute carnage.
ianv, last years was worse tbh. its always like this in the first week, 200 riders trying to stay at the front on fast stages is always going to lead to crashes
