...just to say, bloody good shop. Tom is so helpful and pleasant - sorted my old HT out last year when another shop had condemned it, sorted my derailleur problem out this morning and gave unbiased advice on servicing needs (ie, new bike doesn't need it yet).

Will take son's bike in for a service in next few days. Great to have an good LBS nearby. Must use as much as possible. Good LBS are few and far between.

Got my Sherpa from them last year. Beyond helpful. Great after sales care, helped me through a couple of niggles.

I have bought a couple of Trannies from them now. Both lovely guys and always super helpful, even with numpty questions via email etc.
If I ever need another MTB, they will be my first port of call.

Bought a couple of bikes & had some wheels built by them. Great service and happy to make the trip up from Portsmouth.

Like wise, excellent service when I bought my transition a year or so ago. Great shop and would recommend anyone to make the diversion there.

Same can be said for 'pedal and spoke' in Peaslake, haven't ridden in a while due to medical reasons but ventured over to the Surrey Hills, popped in and explained my situation and lack of fitness and they were most helpful in pointing me in the direction of some suitable trails, good lads...didn't even buy anything which I felt a bit guilty about but there's always next time.

Yep, the young guys there (P&S) sorted my mini mechanical failure a couple of weeks ago. I only had enough cash to buy some inner tubes at the time, but felt I needed to make some contribution. They told me that they were not linked to C'leigh store anymore. What's the story there?

+1 Tom and tamed earth have been fantastic and despite some tough times always give the best service, sales and advice. honest chaps which is great. I've had two kids bikes a smuggler and a giant off them plus many more conversations and components, plus lots of help along the way. I'm lucky to live on their door step with trails north, south, east and west without having to drive and will be out over the up coming holiday with tom hopefully competing one of the many local loops. ps teamhurtmore im guessing you were with me in Madeira last summer?

+1 for Tamed Earth and Tom, I go to them all the time now. They happily and quickly sorted out a couple of problems on my older bikes...even though I didn't buy them from Tamed Earth and they were low value jobs. When it came to my new bike, I decided to get a frame and build it up myself. I wanted a frame from a brand that they are not dealers for but was so sold on their level of service I decided to talk to Tom and see if he could get one for me. He managed to get me the frame and provided great support as I attempted my first build. So even if they don't stock a brand that you may be after, it's still worth talking to them.

Not guilty variflex!!

Intrigues by your NESW comment - tried riding S and loopping round via Liphook and Marly area and found it disappointing and wet!! Ditto never ventured too far east.

More time P'bowl, Gibbet, Hankley, Crooksbury or over in the honeypot that is Peaslake etc. Found two great new cheeky trails yesterday - seems a bit more action in the area - thanks Pixies!!

One was very vague and typical steep soft stuff which I struggle with as I am not ballsy enough to really drive though the corners. Need to ride the soft, narrow tracks aggressively it seems - well that's my excuse for two slo mo offs yesterday!!

I'm with Variflex, loads in every direction just a matter of discovery, perhaps a group ride to share trails in and around Punchbowl is a good idea?

They're ok 😉

I'm local to there and would be up for a group ride if it comes off. Hope to head up there later today after I've signed off.

I'm up for the group ride, live Petersfield way but have an itch to explore around the Punchbowl area. Count me in if it happens!
And again ++ for Tamed Earth. I haven't used them much but whenever I've popped in they've been more than helpful.

@TH you need a jacket. Very quiet up there because of the rain but it was worth getting out. I like minions but a pair of shortys would be ideal up there!

Add me to the fan club. Tom sorted my BB out for me on Friday - my Shimano tool wouldn't work with the SRAM BB.

Other problems kept me from riding, but at least I found them sooner.

Reminds me to take son's bike in for a service!!

Last ride up there was a (mental) shocker - came off 7 times on every technical bit I tried. One of those days...

Does anyone know Tom?

Been up twice recently to get my bike serviced. Window sign says on holiday for 2 weeks from 20 August. But still shut up.

Hope he/the shop is ok? Website says shop closed still.

That doesn't sound good. Last time I was in he said that he was very busy with servicing and repairs.

One of the few guys/LBS that I trusted round here. Been ripped too many times elsewhere.

(CW?)

The workshop was plenty busy, no problems there.

And yes, definitely one of the good guys.

Cycleworks in Haslemere. Drop in and say hello.

Thx Ned. Might/might not take you up on your offer. It was one of your other stores who wrongly condemned my HT which Tom sorted out for £50 (see my OP) so I am a bit anti CW still. Shame because your demo day was great and helped my determine which bike to buy. But the other service dept attitude meant I bought elsewhere. Sorry for the honest feedback and it was a shame because I know you are mostly good guys

I'm nothing to do with CW! Never had anything to do with the bike trade, other than as a customer.

I meant if you want to say hello to Tom, you might catch him there.

I hope everything is ok! Tom built up a pair of wheels for my pumptrack bike, and they are holding up perfectly!

This isn't fair - good bunch of friends and a few occasional riding buddies too.

Was it just not financially viable ? Real shame, my local LBS - great service and really good guy
