[#2278711]

so i am single speeding a bike

i was hoping to get away with using just the middle ring on some cranks, cassette spacers and a cog, and a half link chain.

can i just buy any or does it need to be a specific width for mtb (some are bmx are they not?)

which are good but cheapish?

cheers

Just use any chain and a half link. Google magic ratio. I have had best results with 1/8.

An oldrear mech works well as a tensioner tho.

You only need one halflink, unless you want the bling factor. Just make sure the halflink is the same width as the chain you intend to use.

Don't bother with a half-link chain - get a KMC610HX (which is 3/32") and, if you need a half-link, get a Gusset link-and-a-half (from Billy's)and fit it using two master links.
Easier and more reliable than using the "normal" half-links, which you have to join by pushing the pin back through.

I use a gusset half link chain. Looks nice, no messing aound. By the time I'd bought a new chain and sourced a half link it didn't work out any more expensive.

You can either thickness of chain. Sheldon brown explains more. There's not much in it.

Halflink chains are heavy. You only need the halflink for one joint.
