In the continued hunt for lovley singlespeedy big wheelers I'm looking at these as options, similar price etc, but which is nicer? I know the swifts are quite short in the top tube and don't have great danglies clearance but they look ace. The salsa also looks fab but some reviews suggest it's a bit of a barge.

can't speak for the salsa but swifts are luvverly

+ salsa is imported by ison or similar and swifts are designed and brought in by an a top Aussie in England on the end of a phone/email/twitter/FB or appearing at most race venues, on this fact alone i know which i'd plump for

get a salsa otherwise I will have to sell the swift as you will prove it can go alot quicker with you on board and that would be bad!

I'm 6ft, 34" ish inside leg on a large Swift and have no stand over issues for the kind of riding it is designed for and likely to encounter as a rigid S/S. The fork is ace (better than the on-one carbon rigid) and the whole bike rides very well, although I guess as much of this is down to wheel and tyre choice as it is to the frame. Works better with a short stem too in my experience, keeps it nimble (70mm here with some Niner flat top bars).

I prefer the elegant look of the Swift too, the Salsa is a bit generic BSO. The blue is fantastic in real life, especially with the decals in cream. Very retro in a modern kind of way.

I think they have been updated in geometry as well since I bought mine to be more compatible with suspension forks. But I may be wrong.

If it helps here is a pic of mine:

I have a Mamasita with gears and it is the best mtb I have ever owned (and I haven't sold it). It is also the only 29er I have ridden so I can't help much with comparisons, but I really like the way it rides.

I don't know if the geometry is the same on the elmariachi but the mamasita is quite racy rather than being trail/all mountain oriented.

If it is of interest, if I were to change it I would get a trek superfly 100 or a spearfish but that is mostly becuase of some back problems I developed last year.

Ton, if Bream isn't interested in the Ventana, what are you asking for it and might you be interested in a swap for my Lynskey or something else? I'm having a clearout of frames/bikes and they're all in big sizes. 26 and 29" MTB's and CX.

Thanks for the e-mail ton, a very nice frame but I need a short travel lightweight model.

The Lynskey sounds nice also but I want a short travel FS frame.

Swift is great but my Niner mcr is a better ride. Niner sir? The new pace looks ok.

my ride fast weight weenie keeps dragging me off to look at niner scandiums and carbons 🙄

I'm far too fat slow and old for such racey delusions I'm sure some nice comforting steel is what I need really, at least I can have an excuse for bimbling then 😀

and sam hasn't got back me to yet either

that's very kind of you Mr Sweden, I'll have to catch up with you niche mongers for a ride soon. You can have a go on my plebeian's bike and catch a dose of "normal" 😀
