MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
please have a look at this route from walking bottom... https://www.strava.com/activities/646692747
im not a local myself so am no expert but how could i improve this if i was show a mate round some of the 'highlights' one day..?
i'm quite happy with the highlights, id maybe loop in another off the pitch hill viewpoint, Eric or 19th maybe, but really i just want to improve the transitions...?
thanks
You could include Evian/whatever the one to the right of it after that steep climb is called/switchbacks/secret Santa as a good loop on Winterfold.
Also, at the end of Yog Pots do a right and then go down Crackpipe, then climb back up for secret squirrel, then climb back up again for Telegraph.
Look me up on Strava for a good few loops (George Budd).
If you're riding Northern Monkey, you might as well ride the other trail there (Schralpers Union?). The other trail that comes out in the gulley climb too (Dirtbox).
if you're doing Summer Madness & Charlie Bronson, you can loop round & do Thai Bride before you get to it.
Pitch has got loads of trails. Thicker & Creamier, the trail to the right of it (forgot it's name), Eric, Next to Eric, Indian Summer, Rampage (if you're brave).
Can ride the jump line up top too (Captain Clunk).
Coming back by the Graveyard you can ride T2, Curly Wurly, Wurly Curly & the variants.
If you're going up the other side to Holmbury i'd ride Wet & Wild, Crack Pipe, YP, Secret Squirrel, Slippery when wet, Hush/Barry Knows Nothing.
Do that lot within your loop & it's probably a solid 40/45km. Big day out with lots of trails.
does that Schralpers Union start just to the left of northern monkey?
Evian is open again as well, as is Area 51 to a degree so you could do either of those and then head over to secret santa as well before looping back up to pitch. The trail that cuts off the top of thick and creamy (can't remember what it's called) is good fun and they've finished the end now.
Evian is open again!? Can you confirm that? Great news if so, I've been avoiding it for months. Is it be same as before or modified after all of the felling?
previous posts suggested its not the same evian ie no bombhole and different bottom.
I havent been there to confirm though
Yes, it is open, of sorts.
There is a line that's been roughly scratched in, and some decidedly ghetto jumps. It needs a fair bit of work still, but it is rideable.
Evian is open but I think the trail fairies are still in the process of building - can't see some of the stuff lasting through wet weather riding if it gets a lot of traffic though.
As above, same hill, broadly different trail with the same last 25%. First jump is a bit daft, I suspect it's not going to be that rideable in the winter when the big puddle develops on the run in. Others are fine though, albeit as per hobnob they all appear to have been built by yoof rather than the usual gang. Its been pretty well ridden now so bedded in a fair bit over the last few weeks.
built by yoof rather than the usual gang.
and that's the way it should be, none of this well built sculptured stuff.. 🙂
OP there are many lines from the top of Pitch you might light to explore also all the trails on the Northen shallow side too. Other options down South side of Winterfold plus as above Evian/Secret Santa side although a bit mashed by forestry.
Will send you a few gpx to look at
Is it just mincer me or are the trails becoming harder, steeper and more jumpy? At least the newer ones
ok , thanks all. i think ive found most of the trails mentioned before, just by segment searching. just struggle linking it all together efficiently...

the way i see it (and not knocking the work that is going in), the trails are getting jumps/gaps/table tops on that are becoming increasingly bigger, however ref my comment above, although tongue in cheek, they are very well built which makes them technically easier to ride, just a lot harder to get your head round and when they go wrong they hurt more.
I have a penchant for woodwork, i miss this as it added a level of slow technical ability to the trails, but also some of the really shoddy drops and jumps.
IMHO anyway..
OP happy to show you around if we can get dates/times synced but all the suggestions above are great.
I think if you don't ride the area regularly it can get a bit hard to link it up nicely.
Team hurt more - I think yes more gaps than ever before but lots of chicken lines as well...so it seems but kudos to the guys who build some of the stuff
Many more jumps being built on the easy to find trails, in the past most of it was hidden. Now jump (and bigger) being built on / close to known trails
The way the trails evolve in the area really keeps it interesting. I've been riding there for a 10+ years and I'm still finding new spots and enjoying new additions to old trails.
I do miss 'Clawhammer' though, maybe not the most challenging, but I liked it.
@teamhurtmore - I think they are but I think they are reflecting the increased capabilities of the bikes. I keep thinking an 'enduro' bike will make me a better rider but its not true - or is it!?
Gonna check it out tomorrow night.
Evian is worth checking out first, I was there earlier and the trails are running fast.
Not just the gaps to worry about though, I ended up helping a guy who had a big off on his road bike. I think I would prefer an off in the loam than the gravel - it wasn't pretty.
Loads of great info thanks. Been looking for more jumps actually. Most I've found seem to be either pretty easy or complete madness!
The jumps do seem to scale up pretty quickly. Once you get past the doubles on captain clunk the next step is probably the ones at the bottom of northern monkey.
yeah them at the bottom of NM are just a step to far for me at the moment, be good to build up to them on slightly smaller ones....
anyway, ive updated my route as per comments - still not sure the transitions are right but should do a job....

OP go on a Nirvana Freeride practice ride - Sat at 10 I think. Get to know some people there and please don't publish online what you find out inc Strava traces.
Can't see the segments after Charlie Bronson but looks about right. Personally I would mess around on the top of pitch more rather than trekking over to holmbury, although the one off the side of holmbury after yoghurt pots is good fun. Also can't see if you've included it but rather than barrys there is a much better trail that branches off to the left at the top of the barrys run. Very obvious entry.
