Maybe it's just the weather, but i'm really tempted with a Pugsley.

gil - what does it cost to build one up? The frame seemed reasonable - are the other parts roughly standard (apart from the rims and tyres)?
And if I'm really cheeky any chance of a play sometime? Out Dalby way maybe?
£1500 will build you an all new parts one with a decent spec..sealed hubs,headset,XT/sram X7 gears.
around £800-£900 if you have a doner bike for gears,shifters,bars,stem,seat etc...
you need for a pugsley;frameset,rims,tyres,2 rear brakes/mounting brackets,100mm BB..
the BB is a big price difference, £40 for an isis type which i killed in 500 miles beachriding or £150 for a philwood square taper (dig out those old crank arms or go middleburn)
or go external BB 100mm complete crankset at around £240-£280(speedway,surly,raceface)
The tyres aren't exactly cheap either!
Looks like it's about £800 for just rims, tyres, frame and fork new, so even sourcinga lot second hand, doubt i could build one for close to my £1100 budget.
Should be in Dalby this weekend, looks like another load of snow over the next few days. Think I will give the open moorland a miss for a little while after my last experience 😳
As for a build price it's the wheels and tires that are the issue, framesets are available around the £350 mark but the wheels will be £500-£600 easy and no real way round it

Well, if you read the magazines totally normal wheel sets with wham-bam carbon bits and bobs at £1000 get "value" awards. These Pugslys are clearly low-volume (manufacture! not air!) and dead specialist - very wide hubs, very wide rims, very wide... etc. How many spokes? What pattern? Etc. Specialist items, "suits you sir".
After all, you're not buying the bike for the bike - it's the huge wheels you want. You're buying the bike to wear the huge wheels. So, most of the money going to the wheels is correct. For most bikes the frame is the focus and the major expense - not on this one!

think of cost in the wheelset instead of suspension..
tyre wear is quite good,nearly 1700 on rear and half worn..swapped to spare onto rear this now for grip but for beach smoother the better,interestingly theres a spider tread tyre by the same company inova who make the endos and they retail in the US for nearly half price around £40...i just love the fact that these bikes leave less of an imprint on soft ground than a human..how can anyone (rightous hardore rambler) argue about mtb erosion when you point that out? 😀
