This is the seat tube mount. Fit was tight, but with a slight bit of filing workable.

However the bar from the seat tube clamp to the chain guide is totally inadequate. A single grub screw to fix it just isnt up to the job. Removed it within half a mile.

I've learnt my lesson.

Cheers for the heads up. I was looking at the seat tube mounted one for my Chammy, but won't bother now.

Didn't realise the e13 xcx is only £30 at crc. Should have bought that first.

These are great, cheap, easy to set up - fit and forget.

Don't know about the seat-tube one but my bb mounted one's superb, even better that it cost me £9 off ebay 😀

The E12/MRP seat tube guides are the biggest ripoff I've ever seen.

£71 for a plastic front derailleur with no moving parts, basically.

Pet peeve of mine, chain guides. And I've bought three of the bloody things recently.

fwiw i have both the seat tube and bb mounted superstar ones, never had a problem with either, but i can see how the seat tube one has the potential to fail, - i only use it on my commuter so not much of a problem
the bb one however is solid, cant see how you could justify spending more

Don't think you can beat these for £40.00 (RRP is £109.99 }

That Sunline is twice the weight of an MRP G2 SL though.

The BB mount one is not that solid at all, the back plate is very flexy and has allowed my chain to jam in it because of this several times now. Was thinking of investing in the seat tube mounted one, but not if it's even flimsier as I need something solid!

Might have to try the E13 XCX see if that's any stiffer, or just fit a full top/boron device like an LG1.

MRP Lopes is a nice middle ground if you don't need a bash, E13 have a similar one on the way, the LG1+ TR.

Can't complain about my BB mount Superstar guard, it's functionally identical to the E13 equivalent (well it would be, it's a reasonably close copy). The design could easily be improved but it's effective as it is.

For the record I have no issue with the bottom bracket mounted superstar guide. Ive never tried it but I'm not likely too.

I bought the seat tube mounted guide as I thought it would be more secure. My experience of BB mounted chain guides is that they can be problematic. The seat tube mounted guide in my opinion is suitable for road or extremely light XC use where you wouldn't need a guide anyway.

E13 on the way from CRC.

Rohloff one is all metal for £50 - i've never had any trouble with them. Not sure how much they weigh but can't imagine it's far off the plastic ones.

Well that was easy. E13 xcx, £31 from CRC.

Really well made, fitted and fettled in under half an hour. doesn't move, doesn't rub.

Nice one jam bo. Tempted myself.

Though now I've just fitted a 36T ring to the bike, seems it has all but eliminated the problems I was experiencing due to the Superstar guide not keeping the chain on, as now I can run the cage close enough to the ring to keep the chain on without fouling the crank spider.

I've got a Superstar BB mounted one, bodged with a DMR seat tube clamp and a small piece of carbon. It's absolutely solid, never once dropped the chain, and cost £20.
