Hmmm, can of worms this. I have used a lot of superstar pads, and they do seem to wear faster than goodridge ones.

However not 4x as fast. So its just a matter of riding with spare pads.

Hey - they're only brake pads after all. Not like you need to rely on them or anything. Go on - save yourself a few quid.

Have you used them druid? as while the ones I used/use wear down faster than goodridge pads, they work perfectly while there is pad material left, so I don't get your point?

My point is, that when it comes to "safety" equipment, I think there's a limit to how cheaply stuff can be made. My choice. I guess it depends how much you value your life/mobility though.

50% of my SS pads fell off the backing.

Have used SS pads for last couple of years.

Yes they do come apart every so often. Usually when they are 50% worn for some reason
Yes they are cheap
Yes they have the same stopping power as manufacturers own brand imo

I use em cos they are cheap. As said earlier, they dont seem to wear 4x quicker so work out cheaper to run. If i worried too much i would carry spare pads with me. No big deal.

I've used quite a few SS pads in Avids and Hope. As with most pads the key is proper bedding in.

I've had pairs that have disappeared from new in one muddy ride, while others have lasted as long as 'proper' Avid pads.

Not fantastic performers as they feel a bit wooden but at the price you can't complain.

I used SS blend pads all last year. Early purchase of 4 sets in Nov 07 lasted me from before till recently. Worked very well maybe not as powerful as some. Put some EBC on front at short notice and I've just went for their sintered on the back. They feel just the same and at half the price so I'm happy.
BTW
Pads bedded in 'properly'.
I'm a Late braker.
I Avoid dragging.
Keep them clean.
🙂

(nearly) 4 pairs for price of 1 is well worth it. Lasted well.

I did have some pads fall off the backing plate, but that was a falty batch (that affected other manufacturers too I believe), but they replaced them nice n quick.

They are cheap - the sintered ones work fine - if they fall apart send them back and get a full refund.

I fail to see why anyone buys pads elsewhere.

theres a lot of snobbery in mountainbiking like all niche activities
been running ss sintered all winter last ok brake ok for me
no failures nothing wonderfull just cheap pads. Like all pads and callipers
I check after each ride and bed new ones in .I always carry spares as walking home not fun

I did have issues with the ceramic ones, but took a chance on the sintered. Just replaced the rear one i put in in July and the front is still going strong. And that's 3-4 times a week in the peak, and often in the wet. I've not had any better from any other manufacturer, and the price is fantastic.

Sintered are excellent in my experience.

There is a lot of snobbery in bike circles in my experience.

Yeah, I think some people just dont understand that price doesn't guarentee quality.

I've ordered a set of 4 now, I'll see how they go...

I've used these pads for the last year including a trip to the Alps with Shimano XT brakes and they have worked flawlessly. They may not last quite as long as a brand set but they are a quarter of the price !

...and hope they brake

Isn't that what they're supposed to do?

It's been said, but sintered great.
Druidh - question is, are SS "cheaply made", or are the branded ones overpriced?
