http://www.retrobike.co.uk for those who aren't already acquainted.

Just go there.
You'll never leave!

I visit there as often as possible, helps to take the bad taste away that I sometimes get from STW forums!

The first full susser I ever lusted after! Mint Sauce rode a purple and black one so it had to be uber cool

[IMG] [/IMG]

Also turns out to be one of the worst bikes ever made by all accounts! Good job I couldn't afford one.

Me in 1990-ish

Bike too tall - check (20.5" Marin Bear Valley)
Scott AT4s - check
Cheesy helmet - check
Bumbag - check (2 of them - one on handlebars, the other's pink!)
Cool shades - check (Bolle Edge, I've just bought a NOS pair in fluo yellow for 6 quid!)
Trainers - check (soon to have Axo Ponys)
Toeclips - check
1% body fat - check (freak photo, I was pulling hard on the bars to avoid submerged rocks)
Canti brakes - check
Speed - woefully unchecked!

Anyone else got a photo of themselves on their first proper mountain bike? Pre-suspension and pre-disc brakes preferably, pre-vbrakes are the best.

A recent loft find, signed by Paul Hinton. I got him to come to my school! I got to meet and greet which meant I got to ride his ti race bike round the school field. Campag group, and first gen pace ridged forks. Goes without saying how great I felt riding that bike. Also goes without saying I had a crush on Caroline Alexander...
Poster is huge and my wife will not let it hang anywhere!

CaptainFlashheart - ah - I'm guessing the other side matched the Ringle stuff. I remember that one. I still have loads of old mags in the loft. Including the first load of MBUKs.

Here's an old one of me on my Rascal:

Plenty of older ones I could post, but I'd have to upload them again, as I lost 'em all online when fotopic folded.

Loving this and sad I haven't any pics from the era.

EDIT: idave - a vote of thanks from me, as it was attempting to follow you and Wil longden in Penshurst DH race practise around that era that persuaded me I had neither the talent or money to compete in DH. Saved me a lot of pain and injury that did 😉

Woody, I was a bit shit at downhill though, not in the same league as Will and Peaty (clearly).

Another one, Trek 800 test, Jerusalem, 1991??

bar ends

I saw the most incredible bar setup ever on a bike down the street yesterday. High rise long stem, 3-4" rise bars and then an amazing bar-end combo - bar ends as usual but with a further two sets of bar ends attached to said usual bar-end. Wish I had my camera with me, I may go for a look to see if it's still there.

Local Motion! Woooooo! Proper old skool stylings!

What about the wheel covers prevalent at that stage? Before the proper Tioga disc wheels. Made by Cosmic and Local Motion, IIRC.

Oh, and triangle frame bags FTW!

Anyone else remember the excitement of waiting for T-Bones t get imported?

Possibly the first component to start "meaningless-upgrade-itis" and thus spurn an industry?

Thought I'd bump this when I saw these.. Not sure if they're in the right era though.

[img] [/img]

Is it me or does that bike have 4 seatstays? And 2 forks, obviously. And why does he have a bottle? How is he planning on drinking through that helmet?

[img] [/img]

Awesome full face, and pretty sweet slamage.

1993 you say? This was the day of JMC's funeral up on Rushup Edge / Chapel Gate.

1993...when men were men, JMC was (still is) a legend and people had proper sized chainrings (none of this poncy 44t rubbish).

Aye, JMC came from up north, my village. I used to ride with him & his (bro - Justin) when (he) worked at Halfords... still miss him. 🙁

Like my work skip find?

[img] [/img]

Had a normal Clockwork in 90/91 and got hold of this at work the other year. Had some new paint and stickers and now its sat in my cellar, waiting for another 20 years to go by...

Will dig a pic of that out, Flexstem AND AT4's, now thats a quality handling bike!!
