Looking back over my last few years of riding, it seems that every year I build up my riding significantly over the first 6-7 months of the year, heading out 3-4 times a week.

But then I get to August, and it goes flat, and in the last 4 weeks I've done 5 rides.

Seems to happen every year, and wondered if anyone else finds this?

My current favourite bike is out of action waiting for new brakes, but I've 4 others sitting there I could use, and that wasn't the case in previous years.

I always have a terrible post Morzine slump, not helped by the fact that 2 weeks of chairlifts and mutzig is not ideal normal riding prep. Currently in that slump right now

I ride far more in the first 4 or 5 months of the year than I ever do in summer, I have no explanation why, mibbe as it's decent weather and there's more stuff going on?.

Usually by this time of summer I'd carrying a few little injuries and such, and yes a post-Alps slump

I haven't ridden since before I went on (a non-biking) holiday.

Got a shitty summer cold now, so don't feel like riding anyway. Plus, we have loads of stuff going on with preparations for house renovations.

It's not just riding. My previous past time was climbing mountains and that had the same activity pattern.

No slumps here ๐Ÿ˜‰

Usual procedure is to go balls-out from around April and by this time (if not broken in some way) I'm a frenzied whirlwind of energy and fitness and smash everything everywhere

The momentum carries me through January and then I generally sack it off during Feb.

I think its the "i can ride tomorrow" syndrome. As usually the weather is ok for riding most days so you can defer riding. In winter i go out far more as well, there's no point putting it off. Then in spring i am so giddy with lighter nights and drier trails with no over grown vegetation i get out at every opportunity

glad it's not just me that has this slump thing going on... and thinking about it I can see the reasoning about the stuff going on in summer kicking in.

I think I resist the non biking summer activities for the first half of summer, but maybe by the 2nd half I'm cornered by a combination of that and a build up of tasks that start to enter the 'need to be done now' stage after putting them off for weeks.

Yep all my travelling is done and I peaked a bit early this year due to over use of zwift through the winter.

I have stats going back to 2008 and October has sometimes been a good month. Depends on the weather and my frame of mind and work commitments.

Aye, that's definitely a factor too, lots of good descents locally that are in their prime before the bracken comes up to head height.

early 30s = no weekends it's all stag dos and weddings.

not complaining. but there's lots of other things to do.

In the winter the only people who invite me out are cyclists. in the summer it's bbqs and the like. Normal people stay inside and eat roast dinners in winter (i think).

Yep, I seem to have June slump most years, only this year it extended into July and I'm only just picking things up. Don't get me wrong, I still get out, but these last couple of months just not as much.

Put in lots of winter miles for those summer smiles. Then find out that summer isn't all that different to winter.

Three rides in June and nothing since the 20th. More of a midlife slump I think.

Yep I get this every year too. Commute miles drop off due to taking days off on annual leave and MTB mileage drops off for the reasons Rocketdog mentions. Also, the last few years, July and August has generally been crap for the weather.

Back on it from next month no doubt!

Last few years it's injury induced. Last month was good for volume, I think I was just knocking on 1000km, but a broken collar bone, ribs & busted up shoulder have taken longer to heal than expected so most of that mileage was on dull stuff ๐Ÿ™

I haven't been on a riding holiday yet this year either, so not even got that as an excuse.

Probably have a big slump after a bit of a break after the EWS in Finale in October though. And i'll be grumpy about winter coming & riding in the dark all the time ๐Ÿ™
