Gutted Tony - missus is due to give birth to our first 'un that day otherwise I'd be there. Know the trails around Ogden etc like the back of me hand. Where you headed? Sheep trail around Warley Moor Res and then out towards Limers Gate / Luddenden Dean etc?

I'll also be at Dusk til Dawn - so you'll have to arrange another one on a later date 😉

If that's the bit I'm thinking of DeeJay (off the moor top, down to the gate), it's been sanitised recently 😥

We were up on Ogden last night, cracking in the dark 😀

Can't see the pic from work but I assume its the drop when you have Thornton Moor Res on your right, off the top off the moor after the nice long singletrack climb?

Yep, unfortunately its been 'sanitised' about a year back maybe? Tis dead fast now though with a few little launches and stuff thrown in and theres still some nice lines right at the top.

Davey - Sanitised trail is Hambleton Lane. It's better other way round to your description, as a climb with long singletrack descent to Odgen to follow . You then climb the cobbles rather than descending them.

Hmmm just remembered I;m out on a Leo Sayer in Manchester the day before.

Still going to try and make it though. I'll have spaghetti for tea in Manchester washed down with a yard of ale.

Aye Dave - I'm always undecided which was to do that loop (Ogden over to Sowood Lane etc). I love that climb but its a cracking descent too but its mind numbing having the cobbled climb first! Might look into an opportunity to head back towards Halifax and climb up something that way first... I hate the cobbles!

Mrs coolhandluke won't let me. 🙁

Last time I went on a STW ride round Rivi (Thanks Lowey) it took 7 hours. I thought it would be about 4 hours

Problem was I said I'd be back in time to cook dinner for my dad and step mum. They were there already by the time I got back. oops..

Still at least I got out of cooking ! 😀

Cake from Last ride

Cake from Settle ride

Its kind of a tradition on these rides... cake and tea/coffee at the end.

Cakes and coffee on the Nan Bield ride but you would insist on taking a short cut . . . . 🙂

I know. Ive been told by the Cumbrian locals that they dont consider Ive popped my Nan bield cherry properly yet because of that. Apperently got to wait a while for erosion etc though as they've fundamentally changed that descent now?

Great to bump into Lowey and others on Winter Hill last night. Didn't recognise you looking 'fresh'.

Although I appeared to have recovered from knee surgery (still hurts but in randomly different places now) I will not be on this ride.

Unfortunately, will be MTBing in Portugal :p

Hope the weather is good!

if this ride is on (thread gone a bit quiet) then I'm in.

Can someone explain to me the protocol re. cakes; as I've never made it to a STW ride before I am eager to avoid commiting social faux pas 😳

I missed the cakes on the last, left early, been kicking myself ever since. Will try harder on the 4th.

Muffins acceptable?

commiting social faux pas

given the cross section of folk on these rides I find it very difficult to see how anybody could do that.

we have every type/sort of/size/shape of MTB rider going.

I'm slow up hills, slower down them, despite my tarty mid life crisis bike.

Also I can't bake.

I'd love to come along despite the fact that I'm:
a) horribly unfit
b) getting middle-aged spread
c) lacking some of my youthful nerve when it comes to sketchy bits
d) more prone to falling off than I used to be

(It's not a multiple choice - they all apply to me)

I do have a rather tarty bike though that gets me out of trouble more often than not. If I can clear it with my wife (and 6 week old baby) I'll be there

We wait for everyone and there are usually bale out options and we ride at leisurely pace*. That said they are over 20 miles so you need to be able to complete the distance but it is not a race and walking up the hills is allowed. Mincing down is allowed but we will be supportively sarcastic at this point.

Cakes are baked by a number of people and anyone who wants to does so it is not compulsory.

Brews are generally sorted depending on numbers but if you can bring hot water /milk/sugar etc it would be appreciated.

Oh yes no one has been hospitalised on the last two so they are getting safer.

*Deejay routes will be advertised at 20 miles will really be 30 + of mud and will end with a brutal climb!!!! 😯 😉
