the above question. take the gap by using old inner tube.
would this cause major problems
No
Only if you don't consider death or serious injury to be "major problems" ๐
You CAN do it.
You probably SHOULDN'T do it! I wouldn't.
yes it is a stupid question!
The answer is - no, no, no
You can try a shim , using an old inner tube may not be the best idea..
YES you can if its an Easton Bar & stem - they make a shim to suit, works a treat!
otherwise it a no go.
31.8 - 25.4 = 6.4mm
That's a big gap to be taking up with a shim. Especially a rubber one!
Yes, but for pity's sake use a proper shim instead of four thicknesses of inner tube to twang around inside. Easton do them, and so do others.

What's the worst that could happen? ๐ฏ

ok its a no then
i am using a easton ea30 bar and a outland stem
You can with a proper shim, I had one made up for me that works a treat.
Jones H bars come with a shim for 25.4 to 31.8 - not had a problem, never heard of anyone having a problem. So, yes, you can do it.
A proper shim is fine. There's plenty available, even Thomson make one. A bit of inner tube is certain death...
I have been sensible and made up a proper shim. 1" of old seatpost and cut in half. that would be fine?
Yes it can be done. I used an Easton shim in a Thomson stem to hold Race Face bars! Simple.
Has anyone mentioned using a shim?
1" of old seat post cut in half long ways to use as a shim
I know, I was trying to be ..........
Oh, it doesn't matter. Glad it worked.
was just being really stupid with using inner tube. blonde moment
lol
Yes, but what about a 31.8 bar in a 25.4 stem? I can just sand a bit off the outside off the bar and a bit off the inside of the stem can't I?
