How do I know when I need to replace the bearings in my Superlight?
Do I check for something? Or just ride until something makes a funny noise or breaks?

Grab the front end with one hand and the back with the other. Waggle it. Can you feel any play or knocking?

^ +1 one, also try unbolting the shock and feel the movement of the bearing as you move the swinging arm back and forth (up/down).
My prophet bearing were shot completely filled with mud/rust, though there was no play in the swinging arm.
It surprised me how much movement I know have, since fitting new bearings...
