Hi all,
Noticed some play in the front hub of 2014 Stumpjumper FSR. With the wheel in the fork, side to side play can be felt by gripping either side of the wheel and rocking back and forth. Is this an indication that the bearings are shot? If so, any ideas which cartdige bearings are compatible? The Specialized web site says the hub is as follows:
Specialized Hi Lo disc, sealed cartridge bearings, 15mm thru-axle, 32h
Thanks.
Warranty them then find out what they are from the dealer? Mine went on my 2013 ones within a few months and i got them replaced under warranty.
Bump for the afternoon.
Had this problem on my 2013 stumpy. I found the maxel supplied was not tightening up enough to clamp the bearings tight. I swapped maxels from and old pair of revs and the problem was solved.
Not sure this is the same problem, but worth a try.
Hi,
Got home and removed the dust seals on the hub to reveal the cartridge bearings. For anyone else they are 6902-2RS, that's for a 2014 Stumpjumper FSR 26". The current bearings are grinding nicely so time for replacement.
Anyway, various videos show knocking the bearing out by hitting the inside edge of the bearing from the opposite end of the hub using a drift of some sort. However, the gap between the two bearings is occupied by a steel tube of sorts meaning the back of the bearing can't be reached. It is just a case of trying to get something under the bearing to prize it out?
The sleeve between the bearings will be held central by rubber O-rings, so can be prised off centre (though not enough to make it easy) to gain an edge to hit.I normally use a length of stainless rod, ground with a slight angle to catch the bearing's edge when i'm removing them.
