Having been given some money for Christmas by my in-laws, I used it to buy a new set of wheels for my road bike (Fulcrum Racing 3s) and an integrated stem and bars (Deda elementi alanera).

The wheels shaved about 500 grams off the bike's weight, and the bars a mere 7 grams, but I am over-the-moon with how it all looks, and I am very excited to ride it.

Unfortunately, I am talking about my summer bike, which means I won't actually take it out for a sustained ride until sometime around March/April, which means it will just sit in the house posing as a piece of Italian art.

Come to think of it, I have really just made myself a bed of torment. 🙁

I don't really need to upgrade much on that particular bike; I just wanted to.

I saw the bars come up on ebay in perfect condition; they were of exactly the same dimensions as my current set-up; and they looked beautiful.

It was a risk, I know, but now that I have put them on, I am glad I bought them, as they feel fantastic under my hands, and look better than I had even thought they would.

Indeed, once I replace my front brake cable tomorrow, and put on some new bar tape, I will post pictures.

I take it carbon bars are not something you would have spent your money on?

Fair enough. I googled them and thought "gosh they're expensive". They are something that's been around for a while but I've never really understood why they existed as I thought they only really offered disadvantages. Although alot of companies now seem to spec them as standard on their bikes.

Does not matter if it’s not going out for a while. Winter is always partly about tarting up the summer bike as it gives you somthing to think about when your riding in the mud and rain

Just wait for a dry day and ride it, surely?

I've had my new bike for 4 weeks and built it 2 weeks ago...still not ridden it due to being full of cold/sore throat/chesty coughs 🙁 Still got the sore throat for some reason but other than that, I reckon it might get its first ride tomorrow 🙂
