The plate is sealed into gortex boots that have done 15 years. Quite tempted to metal toothpaste squeezy epoxy the bolt in and that will be that. Any other ideas?

Nixie, oh got to love this place.
Once found, they worked great. Will try out the one cm movement in foot position. Thanks for your great suggestion.

No problem. If the position is not quite right you might be able to rotate the plate in the shoe (though iirc it was very fiddly to do).
