They wont take the amount of oil in the uppers that the Manual says!
Originally these were OEM 100mm travel Recon, I have now fitted the correct MoCo Damper and the manual now says to put in a further 13ml of 5w oil.
With the specified 133ml of oil i only get 50mm of travel, take out 6-7mm and get I full travel
All i have done is seperate the Uppers from the Lowers (no internal strip) and replace the oil
Clueless as to why I cant put 133ml in and concerned that somethings wrong?
Any Ideas ?
Is the damper rod fully extended when you're attempting to refill with the correct quantity of oil?
If so, what model, year Recon forks do you have? Do you have oil height data as well as volumes?

I think so , I mean its bolted in place at the bottom?

They are 2011 Recon Gold R's

Using 133ml of 5w in Upper, and 6ml of 15w in lowers, is this what you mean?
that is allot of oil,if its just in the lowers on a solo air mine only needed about 20ml per side for 100mm use and ther spot on.
Deff says the following
Damper side RL Motion Control Upper 133ml 5w lower 6ml 15w
Spring Side (Solo Air) Upper 3ml 15w lower 6ml 15w
It sounds like you're trying to refill the damping oil with the forks completely assembled. You need to refill the uppers separately, with the damper rod fully extended, bolt up the top cap etc and when done refit the lowers with the 6 ml lubrication oil in each leg (I'd guess). Refitting the lowers will now compress the damper rod (and hopefully locate it) but now the oil's got nowhere to go!
I don't know your forks exactly but they're all much the same to be honest.
133ml doesn't sound excessive, by the way.
With oil heights you measure the height of oil when filled as opposed to it's volume. I prefer this method but both work well.

Thats exactly what I did!
Time to buy more 15w oil then I suppose as Ive run out now, ah well. Thank you I shall take your advice and try again. Very Much appreciated ๐
Nice one and happy to be of assistance!! Shame about the 15w 'though..
Also don't forget to empty the damper unit of old oil, by pumping it up and down till it all come out.
Also when filling it be worth pumping it a little to prime it.
With some engenious use of gaffa tape and some bungs, my shox have been dismantled and rebuilt following your advice without loosing the oil in the lowers and I now have the correct amount of oil in the Uppers.
Would never have twigged on that i was dong it back to front! Thanks Again
