Yeah, my names Wookster and I'm an addict.......I wouldn't mind but I can't climb for toffee!! Brilliant fun though! ๐
I got 3rd fastest on spooky woods descent the other day (no walkers, dogs or oncoming traffic to be seen)
Ive got KOM for the Britney Spears descent apparently, i cant even remember doing it! (just uploaded a bunch of old ride from the GPS).
It's going to get swamped with stupid segments so suspect they'll be more control over what you see in a ride in the future. Perhaps I shouldn't complain as got KOM on a segment in Horley on Saturday - 90 riders there so maybe not so bad.

Hammy, I think it won't appear until someone else has ridden it...it will show for you but no-one else...once it is a 'public' segment and others have ridden it, I think it then shows.
I think...
It's quite annoying when you go out for a couple of hours on your road bike and make a big effort on a particular hill, to get home and find Strava saying you have done a 0.8km ride.
๐ก
Never happened to me. The main reason I use Strava now in preference to all the other iPhone GPS loggers is it's the only one that has always been 100% reliable!

I reckon it'll have to soon, now it does seem to be catching on, with Endomondo being so 2011.
The search is sh**e imho (although Endomondo also has annoying features).
The whole segment has to be contained entirely within the map (which is not exactly massive) for it to show. I see plenty of segments on a search with only 1 ride by 1 person.
I did give it one more chance, but only cos you can bulk import. Most I'll do is wack a month's worth in in one go, just because everyone says it's the app of choice this week. But it does stupid stuff like re-re-resurrecting a segment that I've nuked three times so far after merging with another, where it split a logical climb in 2. No idea why, but I cba to faff with it. Can't complain if it keeps wanting to give me an extra KOM for 1 very short climb.
edit: oh and it keeps awarding me the silver medal for Laggan Wolftrax Orange when I basically wheeled down at little more than walking pace with a knackered back wheel, and a time nowhere near the leaders ๐
zilog - it's my crappy smartphone GPS, but still annoying

I think they need to start using some sort of approval system for public segments. Go and do 3 laps of Richmond Park and you'll log over 200 segments. However, Strava does show most of them as hidden segments.
Just discovered strava segments. May have a go around Glentress tomorrow to see how I do - damn, addicted already!
Can you use a different logging app? I use Oruxmaps on my Android and it has been the most reliable so far as well as most accurate and least battery hungry of the apps I've tried. I have it set to auto create a gpx file when I stop recording then I just upload the file to Strava.
The Strava app is nice but after hearing the failed recordings of a few people, I'm happy to stick with Oruxmaps.
I have used Endomondo and Garmin to record rides and then export as GPX/TCX and import into strava. I would suggest that any app that can export a gpx would work.
I have lost my only road KOM by one sec and it upset me much more than I expected!
You're not alone. I was fuming/upset to the point where I wanted to leave my weekend away to come back for another go!!
I had something even worse happen tonight:
I had a reasonable ride and then perfect conditions on the Clifton Suspension bridge sprint.
I was chuffed with a decent run, only to find when I got home that the app had a hissy fit and decided not to record my ride.
Nooooooo.
As a closet roady, i like testing myself on the ups and the downs ๐
Went llandegla the other day and i was up to 4th on the full black circuit. quick-ish up the climbs, and quick-ish on the descents.

Same here neil bolton. about 4.45 to 6.20
is there anyway of moving my rides from sports-tracker to strava ??
If it's the old Nokia Sports Tracker you need to download them from the web site one at a time them e-mail (up to 20mb) to Strava Upload. If its the other Android one then there was a download all setting.
Uploaded all my old ones and got a KOM for Lee Q!!
cheers ,
sussed it out and looks like its one at a time for me
I did get KOM on a ski lift in the Alps !!
2 KOMS @ Afan on W2 last weekend - This is so addictive, been checking daily if they still qualify for KOMS..!!
I'm currently hooked on "A Classic Challenge from Specialized", I'm hoping to get past 50% ๐ณ
9% here...
someone from Lynton passed 100,000 in about two weeks.
82,000ft to go by the end of the month...
bagged 3 KOM last night and 1 this morning
I'm finding it quite addictive (partly because some random emailed to challenge me)
Clifton suspension bridge.. will have to look at that.
I want park street!

He's past 220,000 now but say's he's eased up, he's still running third though. ๐ฏ

I clicked the join challenge button when I saw it, but it had already been going for half a month. At the time I worked out I'd have to ride just over 3000 feet every day for the whole of march. Round here, that just wasnt going to happen ๐
Caved in and joined yesterday. Hooked.
Careful on those road descents!

I do wish Strava had been around this guy was riding;

75,065 miles in a single year.
On Wednesday 12th April 1939 Tommy Godwin rode a total mileage of 175 miles bringing his year total to date to 16,944 miles
that bloke was nails.
@trickydisco You need to a perfect run to get the Clifton Suspension bridge - you've got to have an empty bridge in order to be able to nip around the 'wrong way' of the toll booths.
That and I've been trying to do it on a bleeding inefficient Zesty with Super Tacky tyres...those roadies have it easy!
I've just found out I can upload my endomondo stuff. Hot a KOM on a local hill.. big up for the steel racer on that one!
Ohh goodness me, I've gone and downloaded it.
What's all the fuss about..?
Will it make me feel knackered..?
Can I niche it into 29erSS mode or will my results just look too slow to register..?
Its customary to post a list of excuses beneath every ride you upload, so a 29er SS will be perfect ๐
Nick,
Lewis King is a former pro DH rider, now racing XC - silver medal in the vets national champs last year and a victory in the first NPS this year. Good rider.
Yep i googled him so will let him off ๐ Will have a good go at getting a better concrete hill time..
Si
Forgotten how steep that was!
Lewis has an incredible burst of pace. Given a clear shot I usually get off the line first, but in the Gorrick Enduro last year he put several bike lengths into ma and the rest of the field without trying! I'd say hills like that would be ideal for him!
I've just found out I can upload my endomondo stuff
Is it just a case of emailing them the files? I only had a few months of Garmin data for Strava, be interested to upload all my older stuff!
Forgotten how steep that was!
yes and to do it 10secs quicker is mental.
Where are all these super duper quick riders???
Strava is depressing. I can't remember the last time I was passed at my local trail centre but I am always passing people (with appropriate courtesy).
You get the impression that you ride your local trails pretty good until Strava.
I rode smoother and quicker than I think I've ever ridden yesterday only to find my rank somewhere on the 3rd page for most segments!!! ๐ฅ
Some of these times are unbelievable.
Whatever you do don't use the comparison function on segment pages!
Can anyone tell me how long an iPhone 4S lasts from full charge while running Strava? Ie how long a ride can it record?
My old 3GS lasts about 2hrs 45 then conks out.
Tried it out in anger earlier this week.
Cycled to the village shop to get some bread and crisps, and got 2nd fastest on the downhill, then KOM on the way back.
Granted the person who was previous KOM had done it as part of a 40 mile ride, rather than a 4 mile ride, but a win's a win. ๐
Now to own everything in a 1 mile radius of the house, though looking at the speed set for some of the off-road sections that seems pretty unlikely.
Went for a dusk ride yesterday evening to test out new Garmin Edge 200. Managed to get a completely off the wall top speed 45 odd mph. My Garmin said top speed was 26.5, which is more like it.
Do you. Think this is anything to do with having autopause turned on? Have now turned it off in case I am cheating.
Accidently road a section that was a segment, only just made the 3rd page...
Mattjg, 4s user here. Done a 3 hour ride in the afternoon after I have charged the phone overnight and used it normally all morning. Came back from the ride and had about 40% battery left, enough to see me through untill I go to bed (12ish).
Can anyone tell me how long an iPhone 4S lasts from full charge while running Strava? Ie how long a ride can it record?
I did an hour on the road the night before last. Went out on 21%, got back on 9%. Bluetooth and wifi off and the phone locked in my back pocket.
I use auto-pause on my Garmin, and I've not noticed any issues within Strava, but then I do pull 45 mph up most hills ๐
Seriously no issues with auto-pause here
Don't think auto pause is the problem. It could be the setting that is a bit more economical on the battery, forgot what it is called, "smart recording" or something. Takes a reading every 3 seconds iirc in stead of constantly.
OK, a question:
I've just created a segment - bit longer than most in my area (only 2 miles though). I've logged 3 rides on it but only 1 shows up on the "leaderboard" (I'm the only person there - KOM, YEAH !!!!)
How/When will strava notice that the segment exists and fill in my other efforts (and everybody else) ?
Or doesn't it work retrospectively ?
