Just left work to find my Orange patriot has been nicked from work's cycle shed. Absolutely gutted. I'm commuting on it because my road bike is off the road and I lost my keys on the way to work this morning so couldn't lock it up. It was in a "secure" bike compound that you need a swipe card to access.
Anyway here's the details:
07 white 18" Orange Patriot
Marzochi 66 Bombers
Coil DHX 5.0 Shock
Hope Pro 2 hubs (blue) on Mavic 321 rims
Hope M4s, 203m rotors
Charge spoon saddle (black)
SRAM X9 shifters, SRAM rear mech think it was an X7
Raceface double with bash
If anyone spots it around Swindon let me know.
If anyone can help in any way it'd be much appreciated
THIEVING SCUM!! ๐ฟ
I'm thinking of having a drive around the more unsavoury parts of town today, if I happen to see some **** on my mates bike how frowned upon would a little "correcting" be by the law?
in my eyes acceptable if you think you can handle them. not sure others thoughts!.
"how did they do that" is what comes to my mind.It was in a "secure" bike compound that you need a swipe card to access.
will keep an eye out whenever I venture down from chelt. white patriot with blue hubs - fairly easy to recognise at least
swipe card to access? maby someone at your work :/ beat em all up lol
My thoughts exactly Chris. Swipe card access? Were there any signs of forced access?
Some swipe cards will keep a record of who swiped in and out. Does yours?
hmmm well been to all the bike shops in town and called the guys down in marlborough (Krags had to head off to Wales and I'm off this weekend so I don't mind helping out) a couple of odd things...
visited a bike shop in the "red light" part of town and the owner was a tad odd, the conversation went as follows:
me "yeah it was stolen from his work, its a secure lock up with swipe card access, I can't work it out"
owner "really, that's the second one then, I have a regular customer who had his taken from there, he's just bought a new bike"
owner "I've been telling people they should use that lock up as its so secure, you can't get in to it"
me: "really? ok cheers"
then left the details of the bike and my number.
I then went to a large chain which sells bikes and spoke to the guys there, they suggested that if it was to turn up the aforementioned place would be the most likely place it'd be taken in to...
...the lock up is for staff only, some thing's not quite right with this, what do you lot think?
Not one to shy away from confrontaion I returned to the aforementioned store, I thought I was referring to the new council run bike lock up in town, which is also a swipe card. I can accept that, he seems reasonable and I've no doubt he'll let mr know if he catches sight of it
Nice one, thanks MrNutt.
Works cycle sheds are swipe card, but if someone turns up on a bike then most people will hold the gate open for them. There's around 1000+ people at work so it's not as safe as it sounds.
My bet is on kids from the local college as they use it as a short cut. Trying to get hold of the old bill again...
There are logs of swipe card access (I work in the IT dept, suprise suprise) but it won't go back that far now.
Well checked all the local "hotspots" bumped into the chairman of mb Swindon who suggested you put the details on their forum, you got the photos yet, should also get it on sdh, bike radar, etc ๐
MrNutt, I know which shop you mean and can say the owner is an honest guy. I was in there once and some Hoodies came in to sell him a bike and he was straight on the phone to the police. I'm around Swindon this weekend so will keep an eye out. I would love to find the thieving scum. Hope it turns up.
Yeah I get the impression that he's a good fella, I guess he was just a tad nervous when I first came in and asked him about it. This makes my blood boil, something stinks with people getting access to the lock up.
Krag you've probably got a case with your employer for not being able to present the swipe records, if they didn't record them when the theft was reported then that's negligence and as for not being able to access the cctv till Monday well that's inane, they should have forwarded that to the police straight away. That will show not only who took it but which direction they came from, I'd imagine that there would be visitor logs/employee logs if its an inside job otherwise CCTV from ether the train station, the leisure centre or college may all contain the thief, best give them a call asap so they don't kill their tapes, want me to do it for ya?
well I called the Oasis Leisure centre, they said that you need to ask the police to check with "Waterside" who run the CCTV for the town, hopefully you'll get an ID from that as they cover both the entire town centre as well as the "known hotspots" outside the centre.
just spoke to great western railways, you need to ask the police to email: dutycustomer.informationmanager@firstgroup.com stating time period & location, the Police only have 7 days to do this so make sure they don't miss out on it!
