My SRAM X9 shifter is a bit sticky, when I change down (going up the block) the lever doesn't spring back.
Know this is a common problem - can I just undo the allen bolt that holds the lever on, and give it a squirt of silicon spray, or will a load of springs and bits fall out and I end up with a shifter I can't put back together?
When mine did that I just took the shifter apart, gave the spring a quick blast with a wire brush as it'd got a bit rusty and put it all back together - crisp as again.
WHen you say "took it apart" - you mean open up the casing, as opposed to undoing the bolt under the lever?
I've had this a couple of times. Ended up taking the lever apart top and bottom to get to the mechanism so it could be cleaned and relubed... Worth it though!
If you do open it up allow yourself an 'entertaining' 2 or 3 hours to put it back together! ๐
I once took a 2010 X9 lever apart and nobody died - it didn't explode springs everywhere, you'll be fine. Try just loosening off the main lever bolt a touch first though, that worked for me when my LH one got a bit sticky.
Good point, it can be a complete pain in the arse going back together.

That's what I'm worried about - right now, something like that would probably send me over an edge. Need to get out on my bike.
So worth doing though, just plan ahead a bit...
Most of the time is spent hooking the spring back into it's locating holes.
