Hi all,

Got a Genesis Latitude steel bike last year - got a few chips from being taken in the car (bloody ford Ka!!) - has anyone got any tips to protect these from rust?

cheers

Luke

I just ignore them.

If I get bored I use the touch up paint that came with my Kinesis.

Expensive steel isn't immune either. My SIR.9 has a few spots.

Sand/lightly file the rust off and use a bit of lacquer or the missus' clear nail polish to seal away from the air. Helitaping on the main rub areas helps loads (the top-tube gets rubbed by shorts etc more than you might assume).

A little bit of rust is fine. I have some on my 5finger bridge thingy bob from the previous owner's chain suck. It annoys me to look at, so I just keep track but try and ignore it.

Not actually any rust there at the moment - just thought it would be a good idea to try and prevent it (having a Ford Ka means I'm no stranger to rust!). I'll get some tape on and some lizard skins..

I've had an 853 altitude for a couple of years. It's chipped all over, the bare metal hasn't really rusted at all. It's quite a different grade of steel to car bodywork.
