I've been running Stans 355 rims with the yellow stans tape, Schwalbe Racing Ralphs (normal evo casing, not UST) and about 60ml of sealant for a few weeks now, and they've been working great up until mayhem this weekend, when I had a few 'burps' of air out of them.
First lap I was cornering over a root and the front tyre slipped out sideways a bit (nothing out of the ordinary, easy enough to correct for), but the front burped and I lost a load of air. Not good when you've got most of the lap to go and your co2 inflator isn't working. Second time I jumped out of a small bomb hole, turned the bike in the air slightly for the upcoming corner (so landed a bit sideways, nothing I wouldn't normally do) and lost a load of air out the back tyre.
So what's going wrong? Is it a coincidence that it's only after a period of time this is happening (although only a few weeks)? Should I be running higher or lower pressures (normally around 32-35psi)?
JRA recommend using a rim strip with non tubeless bead tyres
UST tyres seem to have a very broad "base" to the bead - I guess that stops slippage
I agree with 'scaredypants'; the UST types fit lower into the rim to help prevent burping
I run Conti Race Kings standard tyres on 355's and have found that after a period of time especially in warmer weather the sealant drys out. I replaced mine and it solved the burping issues also run at 35 psi.
They where a bit slippt at times at Mayhem though!

1. Add more spooge - it dries out (especially wheel milk - Stans lasts ages longer)
2. Use a rimstrip.

I always use a rim strip with my 355's and olympics to prevent burping. I'm 80kg, lighter/less agressive riders can get away without rim strips but I've always had to use them.
