OK, so now I've got this lot at home in the shed, having previously bought the Stans No Tubes kit when I had some DT Swiss 4.1 rims (leading to a failed attempt at a tubeless conversion...)
Am I right in thinking I have no need to use the rim strip, just the yellow rim tape? I guess I'll also need to buy some valves, as I'm not using the Stan's rim strip (shame to have to spend a bit more cash on this).
Or should I put the rim strip (with valves) into the Flow rims (extra weight, but maybe a better seal and saves having to buy valves)?
cheers
No need for the rim strips with flows... yellow tape and a valve will do the job fine.
Dave
OK, guess I need a quick trip to the LBS after work to pick up a pair of overpriced valves in that case. Hopefully the Flow rim wont need drilling and comes ready for a wider valve.....?
Mine didn't... but the Stan's valves are presta anyway... ๐
The instructions that come with the Stans kit say to drill out the rims to about 9mm even though the valves are presta, but maybe not necessary if you have a compressor to force the air in.
the only time i've ever drilled rims is when using a rimstrip kit with a non-stans rim.
you shouldn't need to drill stans rims ever.
Dave
Yup, just need yellow tape and valves. I have that exact setup and it was fine with presta valves (cores removed for initial seating) and no drilling.
Good news, thanks
I use the rim strips with my Flow's, found the tyres burped when downhilling with just yellow tape.
(thats why they make a Flow rim strip)
