Great course despite climb!
Pat on the back to organisers. Shame TOD didn't last, hey ho.
As always had great craic with some lovely people, particularly our 'neighbours' in the very yellow Fiat and 'Team More Power' aka 3 Jocks and a Paddy.
Shame Sheldons mum wasn't there though. 😯
Steady.
Had a bit of a chat with the Wok fella, too. Crazy dog. Not Sheldon, I mean the Springer.
Sheldon who?
Thought the course was pretty pants 😕 needed more natural ST and stop putting in the stupid regulation hill push bit it aint funny.
And was the Real Ale alcohol free? had severals pints but had no effect!!!
Well done to the event organisers though for their efforts 😉
@The Swede
Innit. Saw some other crazy dude with an odd ankle to calf imbalance...
it was a jolly nice event, even though I was very quiet and subdued for me. I'll be back to my more chatty bouncy me next time

bike racing final
I overheard an old guy with a look of complete contempt mutter as I pootled by " I didn't know there were so many idiots in the world". Kept a smile on my face for quite a while.
tazzymtbit was a jolly nice event, even though I was very quiet and subdued for me
That will be the cans of coke and off to bed at nine then. 😉
That will be the cans of coke and off to bed at nine then.
that'll be ****in work bollox waiting for me tomorrow 😥
and a hip flask of absinthe and some beer during the vaguely competitive* pootle didn't help either
* for the few folks in lycra who went for it
great weekend, thanks to the organisers
some snaps and vids of the dance off here

Hey tazzy, we got to see your nipple - what more could an event need 😯
The site was brilliant, lush grass, mostly level, views to die for and a classy sunset on Friday night. Plus I got to see implements I never new existed 8) The course wasn't quite so level mind...
Only minor criticism; what happened to breakfast on Sunday?
Great event, thanks to organisers, marshals, helpers, et al. And full marks to the guy that cleaned the hill... twice!
Hey tazzy, we got to see your nipple - what more could an event need
well I wasn't going to get my garnished gentleman's vegetables out in front of you weirdos for only a bottle opener 😀
Great weekend, climb was a bitch, but the descent was fun, I think I was the last person to start after finding my bike in a stream!! I know it was a stream as i got wet recovering it. Pity about the lack of guided ride on Sunday, but found a great cafe in Llandovery for breakfast on Sunday morning, and then rode Cwn Carn on the way back. Kudos to the guy with the Jaffa Cakes, I had Si from Cotic stood behind me, who was just shaking his head and chuckling the whole way through, I also walked away with a nice shiny Jethro Tule, just for turning up at registration whilst having a beer, I knew my 'race' prep would yield results one day..
..so next year then?
great weekend,, i managed to keep my frily shirt clean ish,,
great course,, despite the pushing but the beer and flapjack at the top was worth it ,,
the minibike final was great ,, but cant believe we got beaten in the tug of war final ,, all i won was a bottle and i had to wrestle it off a nine year old
As usual a great weekend gathering of Gods.
Massive Thanks to Matt, Andy and the team for all the effort that went in to organising the event (I know now what has to be done to get an event like this off the ground) It takes a lot more work than you think!
I'm not going to be eating any jaffa cakes for a while however looking forward to the Cotic arriving 😉
Got some videos of the dance off due to be uploaded sometime today see here
Great to see so many happy people enjoying the weekend togeather. I understand there is no location for next year just yet? Come on step up!!! It'll be a shame not to have SSUK in the years calendar.
Ayatolla I should have bought Preston along but he would have upset your dawgs, not good especialy as we were parked next to your, settelement
Another thanks to the organisers and marshals for another great event.
I understand there is no location for next year just yet? Come on step up!!! It'll be a shame not to have SSUK in the years calendar.
You could always put yourself forward. 😉
Afterall how hard can it be... 😉
Aye, great weekend ... always a good chance to catch up with folks. It's also a great chance to see next years niche now, before it hits the trails. 😉
We're any of the snappers on the descent there in a pro' capacity?
Another fine SSUK 🙂
Great course, great catering, great location, great marshals, generally great!
Regarding next year, myself and a friend of mine did talk to Matt about our ideas for 2011. We just need to make some phone calls to potential venues before we can make a solid proposal.
So who is 'deciding' on the host venue for SSUK11? we might be interested...
Great weekend, my head is still recovering, legs are fine
I have some pic's from the descent which I will post up somewhere once my camera has charged...
I had had a beer or two when I was talking to Matt, so I can't remember exactly what he said about how the venue is decided but he's probably a good person to ask in the first place.
Weeeee.....
Matt who? (I wasn't there though several of our guys were)
A fight would be the best way to decide on next years event;-)
Hope to be there again whoever wins the punch-up, enjoyed this years race, except for the climb..... Not so fit so really sore today after 3 laps and a lap of Brechfa yesterday.
My thanks to all involved in putting it on - always harder than it looks. The massive barn was great and if it had rained would have really been useful to keep dry.
Matt Page - he organised this year. You can get him on ssuk2010@googlemail.com for SSUK-related stuff.
Matt Page, I've emailed you his email address.
Thanks Paddy though since I've volunteered you to organise it, maybe you should email 😉
not sure there's enough room in my back garden for 250 singlespeeders...
Sumo is the new fight!
Given our performance in the tug of war, sumo might not be our strongest suit 😯
Great weekend, great course, although the climb was a killer. Great work from the organisers role on 2011.
i'd back clubber to win a sumo contest, or a tug of war for that matter. 😉
Hell yes! Add in a few of the LVIS rowers and we'd be well on for that 🙂
Awesome weekend as always! I liked the course a lot, sure the push was tough, but you gotta go up to come down and I guess they just wanted to avoid a long fireroad climb, which I assume was the other option.
SSUK location is usually decided by the previous year's organisers on the basis of folks who get in touch with them. Perhaps give em a small chance to recover from the weekend first though.

Indeed a great time was had so thanks there there is nothing wrong with a nice walk up a hill with great company,
I really enjoyed the descent made it very worthwhile it even made me go round again !
And postierich you cant even organise bringing your own filling for a hip flask so we'd better not expect you to put next years event on hey 😆
Thanks
great event, different approach with hiding the bikes by colour !
loved the mini-bike race and tug of war
2 very minor quibbles, not sure if 5 loos were enough and also had to leave earlyish on the sunday and the catering boys were still asleep so no breakfast (not great for an "ample sized" rider).
roll on next year...
Stunning weekend 😀
Thought the course was superb, and the beer-stop at the top of the climb was not only inspired but very, very welcome... and I took full advantage 4 times 😉 Beer-armour makes descending a whole dot faster, too.
A big thank you to the organisers, and especially the cheery marshals without whom yada yada yada.
Rode the Red route at Brechfa on the way home, too. Ace, triff AND brill 😀
(waves at Mr Sparkle)
ace weekend despite it being the first time on a mtb for what felt like a year.
thanks to the fella who gave me some mech help on the last lap - i was breathing so hard i never even asked your name.
Not so convinced re the beer options - The beer at the actual pub was far tastier and sold with the beer name rather than "light" or "dark"
The beer at the actual pub was far tastier and sold with the beer name rather than "light" or "dark"
The beers names were chalked on the wall (next to the tariff), but you really had to squint to see it 😉
Certainly was a super dooper weekend!
Has your lad recovered from saturday night sufficiently MrSparkle? He was looking a little pale when we left!
Hopefully see ya'll next year..
Good times.
Weather was hit and miss, but the sun shone for the race at least!
I'm still a bit gutted to have 'lost' the mini-bike final and a sexy ti frame (as no one said owt to me about a second lap!) 🙄
C'est la vie! 😉
I was supposed to be in the final for that but somehow never got to race.. as you said C'est la vie, who needs a titanium frame anyway?
nixon - we all know the real winner was the wee lad wearing the pss pot with the skillz 😉
looking at the video there seemed to be some underhand tactics by your competitor.
Has your lad recovered from saturday night sufficiently MrSparkle? He was looking a little pale when we left!
We made one unscheduled stop on the way home for a few deep breaths of fresh air (him, not me...)but once he'd got a sausage and egg butty down him he started coming round. Young folk today, eh!
underhand tactics by your competitor.
Pippa? More like Rammer!
Any pics of us on the TOD from the w/end anywhere? Not for me you understand, it's for the boy. Ahem. What do you mean 'attention whores' Sheldon? 😉
Did you make a full lap on the TOD or did the mechanical strike on the way up?
Post your pics up here!
I think I heard the ToD didn't make the beer stop unfortunately.
It bloody did! We had to push the bugger for ages as it snuffed it at the bottom of the hill.
Thanks to everyone got the mostly positive comments and were glad that you all enjoyed.
The steep climb was unavoidable to be honest, unless you would rather a long fire road climb? If there wad an alternative I would have used it.
Sorry about the catering on Sunday, I guess they enjoyed themselves abut too much on Saturday night!
As for the beer being too weak... Come on! 😉
Anyone looking to host the event need to send us a proposal giving us your plans and ideas.
We had an official snapper, I'll get the link posted asap.
Another great SS weekend.
And a tug'o'war! Finally something that I can win (with a little help from the rest of the Yorkshire select.
Thanks Matt et al
And postierich you cant even organise bringing your own filling for a hip flask so we'd better not expect you to put next years event on hey
Knew I was onto a loser when i came across to your camp and Matt was not there, only one that usually has a decent tipple in his flask 😉
Video of the start should be available [url=
in an hour or so. Another vid of the last bit of the descent should be up in a bit (i.e. when Vimeo allows me).
Sure this will be unpopular, but i think you should of left the fireroad in, rather than the push - it was, for all but 2 entrants impossible to cycle up and shattering. Surely a cycle event/race, should emphasise cycling. I hate pushing bikes, especially if there's a viable alternative. Truly great wknd all round. thanks to all organisers
so gutted i missed this event was supost to be my first ssuk but ballesd up the planning for transport as well there will be more
glad there ar epics and vids so not missing out alltogether lol
Ace Job Matt, Andy, Annie + everyone else involved. Good to meet up with friends + ride bikes on a great course.
Really good to catch up with you Aiden.
Ace riding on Sunday in the blazing sun on some of the local gems.
Good weekend... I discovered I have OCD and like to arrange 200 bikes by colour. I also paid £10 (in the form of an aheadset bottle opener) to see a mans nipple. Odd weekend.
Its incredibly difficult organising a race, yeah some things could have been better (like less uphill and more downhill 😉 ) but it was ace.
Awesome event, and some great costumes...made me sad that I wasn't riding..
'Official' photos now up here: Click - high res files ideal for those of you with a blank spot on the mantlepiece. Any profits will be split with the Welsh Air Ambulance - they do a great job for mountain bikers and rely on donations for support.
I'm afraid my hosting won't easily let me make the images searchable by race number (and to be honest I'm a bit too lazy to tag them all anyway) sorry! It's worth skipping to the end of the gallery though for mini-biking and tug of war shots..
If you have any problems with the image download thing, then just shoot me an email. Details in the link above.
Cheers
Great event. I learned, amongst other things, that morph suits are the new baggies, pushing is OK even if you're not a downhiller, and that many 30-something men suffer from the delusion that they can breakdance. 🙂
My quote of the weekend, from Mr Sparkle, when I asked whether his son (last seen accidentally hitting himself in the face while dancing) was OK - "Eh, it's all a part of growing up".
Had an absolutely ace weekend!
Met a great bunch of folk, beat the sparkles and DaddyJim in the tug of war, drank a gallon of beer and had a joined Charlie mid [s]race[/s] ride for a pic-nic.
Cheers folks, see you next year.
Word up Mustard,
hows your wrist feeling? Tempted by suspension forks now I bet!
I also paid £10 (in the form of an aheadset bottle opener) to see a mans nipple
I'd have got me cock out for a pint charlie 😉
A few edits for those who can't be bothered to wade through the whole album..

yep, a great weekend!
Ade - would have loved to have seen that Preston... next time! And why did we spend so long in the tug of war for 2nd place?? I didn't even get a bottle of a small child!
Just one thing that I've been wondering about for the last few days: in the bag of goodies, where they trying to send subliminal messages by including gear cables?
I vote for Sherwood Pines to be next years venue. No hills there.
Though for some of the turns through the trees 24" wheels and 400mm bars would be an advantage.
