Hi Folks ,

How do you reckon it will go if I approach security to board a transatlantic flight with a single speed freewheel and a replacement extension post for a gravity dropper in my carry on ?

Im flying to the states soon and I am going to pick up those two parts over there as they are much cheaper and easier to source .

The gravity dropper inside tube is basically a metal rod aboutย  4/5 inches long , half an inch thick . Siingle speedย  freewheel is 16T .

Will they make it through or should I pony up for a checked bag ?

J

If it helps I've had pedals, tyres, lights in hand luggage. A big light is the same length as the inside bit of your seatpost but fatter and that was fine. Not risked tools or anything pointy though

From US a metal tool has to be less than six inches. If your dropper is longer then it goes in hand luggage. The freewheel will be fine.

Going to the US, good luck but they are stricter than the TSA.

I had a nice chat with a TSA guard bringing back a stages crank when first released in the US. They are very reasonable. Sadly the crank was rubbish!

Shove the gravity dropper tube up your arse is the obvious solution surely?
