new cables , rear mech index ,but the mech still won't return to the smallest sprocket unless eased back with hand!!
i think it could be the spring . can you get replacement spring or is it a new mech. the mech has been cleaned ,degrease and lubed.
any ideas ?
did you fit new outers and inners on the cables?
is the shifter working ok?
is your top limit screw set correctly?
if you undo the cable will it drop into the top gear?
is the hanger straight?
Friend of mine just got his X9 replaced under warranty - the pivots were tight and it wouldn't index properly. Could be the same, bad batch....
Does it return without the cable attached?
Basspine
yes new inner and outer, shifter crisp and releasing cable, with no cable does not return without a gentle prompt and hanger looks fine.
I had the same problem whilst in the middle of the 'Marin Trail' and a big pain in the backside was it...
I took my shifter appart, greased it and haven't had the same trouble since.
Might be worth a try before taking back...

could still be hanger alignment, but it sounds pivotty
