Similar price - anyone any thoughts - on a 150mm HT if that makes any odds. Also the shifter is attached via matchmaker to the current sram brakes - can i attach to a shimano brake or not? if so what do i need?

Have you got the Guides already? If so I probably wouldn’t make the effort to change to the shimano 4 pots unless there is something wrong with your current brakes.

If you have levels or something like that then either the guide or the shimano 4 pot would be an upgrade. I probably wouldn’t get the Guide t though, I’d try to get the R or RS. The R has an easier reach adjustment and the RS is a bigger jump up as it has ‘swinglink’ in it which gives a better brake feel and I think a touch more power.

One brake you haven’t listed is the Guide RE - that would probably be more powerful than both brakes you mention - it’s the same lever as the Guide R with a previous generation Code caliper attaches. Brute of a brake and you keep your matchmaker to keep tidy bars.

got sram Db5s on a second hand bike - front is ok, rear pulls to the bars so will try a bleed first. If not i will move them on and replace with deores or guides
