looking for some advice re my wifes camino.
it came with a sram apex chainset fitted with a 40t chainring.  it is far too big for her for touring duties. she is a gear spinner.
i have found a sram eagle 34t chainset which is also 12 speed, like hers.
question is would this chainet work ok with the chain on her apex set up ??
check if the chainring is boost or not, camino is likely to not be, but the eagle could be either way
And BB, BB's could be DUB or GXP or even BB30 IIRC
I think the Eagle chainline will be too wide.
Probably easiest to buy a X-Sync "Road" chainring that maintains chainline and will definitely be ok with flat-top chain.
wifes bb is dub. and not boost.
the eagle set up is dub, and available in non boost.
the smallest apex chainring is 38 which is too big.
Something like this:
I think that even non-Boost Eagle will have too wide a chain line.
Ah, another option is to buy a 107 bcd, 8-bolt Sram spider and then a 107 BCD chainring to fit. Should be able to get a 36t?
Edit... The "Boost" bit is in the crank's spindle and fine-tuned with chainring offset. DUB BB can be spaced to accept pretty much any length spindle.
Is the Apex crank direct mount like my Rival cranks?
If so you can just swap to a direct mount ring.
I run DUB eagle cranks in place of 1x rival, Q factor is wilde on the set I have so have massive amount of chainstay clearance but chain line not noticeabley different with a non boost chain ring fitted.

Interesting. Flat top chain? Does that run ok on the Eagle chainring?
Sorry, not flat top chain, older 11s rival on 12 speed eagle ring.
Have you looked at third-party chainrings? I think this Wolftooth one may be suitable (should maintain the chainline) and goes down to a 34T.
