Hi, I have recently bought a bike that has SRAM electronic gears. Can anyone recommend where to buy a spare battery? I don't want to spend £50, or whatever it is on an official SRAM one, but also don't want to burn down my house with a £5 eBay special..

Thanks.

Save the heart ache buy a SRAM one, if you have just spent all that money on a bike that came with electronic gears as standard then another £50 is nothing.

Pop back into the shop you bought it from, mine always does me good deals.

I thought there was something a year or so back about some fake batteries - they were nicely cheap but also ended up being less than half the capacity...

Like the others have said, if play it safe and buy a genuine battery from SRAM.

Or buy another bike which also has SRAM electronic gears and then you'll have a spare one. It's not what I did, honest.

I bought one of the cheap ones,  absolute crap only worked half the time.

I gave in and bought the real ones

Or buy a 2 derailleur Force AXS bike then spend $$$ converting it to a 1x Force/GX mullet bike, leaving you with a spare battery. It's not what I did, honest

Buy an upgrade to whatever derailleur it has and keep the old one as a spare and use the battery it comes with. It’s not what I did, honest.

I have just reached batteries = bikes. And I have three SRAM electronic bikes now all running 1x. Just buy an official one of Amazon for about £45

I bought a 4 battery charger and in reality I have 1 spare for each bike in the saddle bag as well as one at home. I wouldn’t buy cheap alternatives and I’d be cautious even buying “genuine” from Amazon as there are plenty of fakes. Get them from a bike shop. 👍

Buy a used AXS GX  and no name batteries which all worked until the pogo pins lost their pogo… buy another used mech with good pogo pins and buy a genuine sram battery. It’s not what I did, honest… but I did learn the tinfoil bodge and have a spare axs mech.

looking at the batteries closely the sram contacts are recessed slightly, the no name ones are flush. Does this over compress the pogo pins, maybe. One of the no name batteries also rattled, the cells were lose inside..

Or if you can't stretch to a whole 2nd bike just for a spare battery then go away for a week and after removing the battery for transport just leave it at home so when you get to your destination you have to buy a spare battery and a spare charger as well - Not that it would happen to me a friend did it 🤣

That's a good shout, buy a spare derailleur as well so you have one to use whilst the other is back at SRAM under warranty for the pins.

Bought a cheapo spare off the web. I get that its probably not as good as the genuine ones, its smaller for a start, but its in my saddlebag as the "get me home" spare because the interval between fine (green) and dead on the actual ones is *very* small.

Also, as an aside, we've started carrying CR2032 spares since my wife's left-hand shifter packed up the other day, despite only being a year old and having been used much less than mine. I wonder if something was leant against it in the shed.

I haven't ordered an original SRAM battery, or a cheap copy. I have ordered a mechanical mech & shifter and will sell the almost new axs set up!

My battery was fully charged, yet when I took the bike out yesterday, it was completely flat for some reason, not even a red flashing led - dead. Had to wait 30mins to recharge the battery, so I'm out!

Each to their own, but keeping it simple and not having to charge a battery every few rides, carry a £50 spare wins for me.

Thanks for the replies though. The question now is; original or unbranded cable? 🤣

The flat battery like that usually happens when you knock the shifter and it sits there ticking away trying to change gear with the pedals aren't spinning.

The battery doesn't just lose charge

Actually, don't rush for me...just off the phone to a mate who is returning a bike I lent him, so I've now got spare axs kit!
