Do I need a special tool to remove my 11 speed seam cassette or will a normal shimano one do the trick??

Yes, a normal cassette tool will do the job. Just make sure it is well seated as the splines on the cassette can be a bit fragile.

Yes, there was a chap who published a detailed blog because his tool didn't get enough depth and he ended up ripping some splines out.
