Soft tissue injuries can take longer than bones to heal.

I assume you are taking anti inflamatories using ice and keeping it elevated?

If so through swelling should come down. However that may then expose and further injury you may have done. It's not getting better see your doc.

Probably some ligament damage. Depends which ones. RICE then get it moving again as soon as possible. Lots of exercises on the web you can do. E.g. get a balance cushion thing and stand on that one legged.

It's worth getting some proper physio soon as it'll be a weak point, you'll be prone to doing it again, and there are things that can be done to help with ankle stability.

Sprained my ankle

Is that self diagnosed? I'd suggest heading to your docs/walk in centre TBH!

Meh - nowt to stop you getting back on a bike now. Movement will help the swelling go away.

As mike said, keep off it, elevated and ice. Mine was painful for a few weeks, but I walked on it, thought it was broken, even the sole of my foot and toes bruised.

I sprained my ankle 5th Aug whilst out on the mountain bike. Once I got home followed the ICE method, did so for a couple of days.

I was back commuting on the 13th Aug. I commute on SPDs, for which I use my left leg as my standing leg. I had sprained my right ankle so thankfully I only had to clip in/out at the start and finish as my ankle didn't have the strength initially to do that at speed.

Resumed mountain biking on the 22nd August, again on SPDs. However it was October before I could really run on the ankle without any pain.

Hope this helps, obviously recover is different for everyone. Just don't rush back. Also if a lot of bruising then perhaps worth getting it checked out to see if there is any ligament damage. years ago I did my ankle ligaments in playing 5s and both times I had to get physio to get the ankle back into shape.

Also self diagnoses of "sore bruised hand" turned into be broken thumb after 6 days of denial by that time too late for surgery and just in time for Christmas and short staffed hospital. This may be one of those times where a quick check is worth doing.

lateral movement really hurts at the moment. I had an initial x-ray in the A&E last thursday. Apparently nowt broken. I have a doc's appointment in the morning which will hopefully give a better insight of the real damage.

Swelling is 30% gone now. Bruises are at their yellowing phase. There are one or two area which i dare not touch so im hopeing there is no fracture.

Im gonna get the doctor to refer me to a specialist (I have Bupa thank god).
