Spokes; Where to buy these days?

I have three wheels to build. Pro4 on XM481. Two rear, one front. I want to use DT Swiss Competition (2-1.8-2) or equivalent. I have used Cyclebasket.com ACI Alpina (2-1.7-2) before and they have been great.

Where is the best place to buy DT Swiss Comp spokes at the moment, or is there another make I should consider  please?

I recently bought some spokes from RyanBuildsWheels on ebay.

I ended up getting Sapim D-lights but haven't managed to actually build the wheels yet, so can't say what they will be like to use.

D-lights are great to use!

I buy my spokes from either JustRidingAlong or SpokesFromRyan.  Who ever has all the lengths I need in one place.  Having said that, I got my last lot from Superstar as they were clearing a load of stuff at really good prices.

SJS sell DT spokes in small quantities if you're after Comps.

Ryan was good for my wheel build. Does one thing well. Measure twice and all that. And measure again.

As many above say, d-lights are great, i get mine from ryan as well, but i live 20 minutes away, you can get them cheaper, but hassle wise it can save some pain, email them with details and they'll double check lengths are right for the build.

I used to use dt competitions from Rose bikes until brexit ruined things. Since then I just build with aci double butted from cycle basket.

I used Ryan for very cheap Sapim straight gauge spokes and they were sent super quickly (but then so do cycle basket) - but generally I find Sapim spokes expensive so don’t use them.

SJS or Ryan

D-lights are great to use!

IMO, I find they wind up more than a race spoke. If going super light spokes, would go for Cx Rays.

  1. Not really going superlight at 95+kgs 😂.  Race look a better bet than D-Lights with 1.8mm centre diameter

Superstar are/were selling off all their old wheel building stock and were selling packs of 100 Sapim spokes very cheaply, they might still have the length you're after.

I use Sapim race spokes from custom cut spokes and buy what is need for the wheel set I'm building.

Never been able to buy a pack of 100 in the size I want.

Thanks all. Went back to Cyclebasket.com for ACI Alpina. £106 for 200 spokes. Always used to use them and couldn't find anywhere close to their prices.
