stratobiker - i posted the same query a couple of weeks back, not much feedback recieved though.

http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/winter-tyres-specialized-s-works-2bliss-sauserwind-18

However, since then I went ahead and I've put pairs of 1.8 S-Works Sauserwind's on my xc ht race bike and xc 5 inch travel bike. Only been out riding on the hardtail so far but am fairly impressed, very light and roll incredibly well and seem good in the gloop, slim carcass of the 1.8 cuts nicely through the mud. I'm running them on 2010 Roval Control EL's and 2009 Roval Controle SL's and they were a b%stard to fit on the 2010 wheels but really straightforward on the 2009's, no idea why so different but anyway!

Thanks for replying bennyboy.

I was talking to a French lad yesterday who had some issues when running them tubless with sealant. He found they went soft, and were easy to burp.

I noticed that the lowest recommended pressure on them was 35psi/2.5 bar which is a bit harder than I have been riding.

Anyway, I've just put one on the front to try.

Thanks Again,
SB

@bennyboy1

I don't suppoose you weighed the 1.8" Sauserwind prior to fitting it, did you?

Secondly, what size are they listed at on the sidewall in ETRTO terms?

They look like a good one to try out.....

Hi

I used these a couple of years ago as proto tyres - they were good in sticky conditions, but pretty skinny and hopeless in mud. They went up eventually with Stans and a compressor. Once up, no probs with burping. I'd stick with Schwalbe.

@Eldrik
The 1.8 S-Works version weighs 460 grams on our kitchen scales.

What are ETRTO terms?

orangeboy
is stans sealant thin stuff like wheel milk, or snotty gel like stuff?

The one I put on yesterday had gone soft. Just reinflated and checked it by dipping it in a pond. Lots of air bubbles on the side wall. Been swishing it around a bit. I'm gonna actually ride it later today.

@StratoBiker

ETRTO is an alternative way of measuring how wide the tyre is, using the same rim etc. I think each time.

It should be on the sidewall of the tyre, and read XX-559. For example, a 2.1" Crossmark is 52-559, i.e. 52mm wide, and a 1.8" Medusa is 44-559.

Thanks....

Have a pair on my Leroi admittedly only use it for racing but they have proved to be bombproof and very, very fast. Took a little bit of faf to get fitted but once on i ran them for about an hour to make sure they were sealed then topped up the Stans and they haven't had any major seepage problems since. As with all tubeless, well in our house, you have to makesure the pressures are right before riding but that's just SOP. Run mine at 2 Bar and they grip and roll really well.

Hope that helps.

I like them on the back (with a Mud X on the front for maximum grip) - nice combo in the mud...

I found them easy to fit on Stans rims with a track pump, but they didn't want to play ball with a converted Mavic 717 rim.

I was very unimpressed with them, not light or grippy in mud for a tyre so thin, but then you have to ride them harder in the dry, so they have less grip there. Not especially fast, and not great to seal either.

Cheap though.

Eldrik - they're 44-559

Just got back from a two hour ride. Had to stop and top the damn thing up three times!!!
Rode great though. Seemed reasonably fast, and predictable on the rocky French trails around here.

Guess I just need to sort my sealant out.

So, is Stans like JRA Wheel milk? ๐Ÿ™‚

Stans is similar to JRA - but it seals a lot more quickly and doesn't dry out.

Guys,
I got some Stans, slopped 60cl in, and pumped it up.

Had to stop a couple of times in the first half hour to put more air in as my Sauserwind was going soft, but after that it sealed, and was still up next day.

Thanks to all for your recommendations.
Beers are on me.
