Yup. The Adventure version with the flared drops. Everyone that's got a Sequoia has them.
I love them. You get a normal good position then a noticeably higher more relaxed position on the flats. Great idea and well executed.
Yep, were like hen's teeth to find in a 44cm but got some from Webster's Cycles Mail Order eventually.
Thing is though, there's nothing to comment on other than they were an easy way to raise the front end of a bike I already had by 15mm. Looks wise, it's all subjective but once you've got bar tape on there and whatever bar mounted paraphernalia you might use, it's quite a subtle effect.
I suppose I would have liked a little bit of flare on the drops, or a little bit of backsweep a la the Syntace bars I was used to, but I think the extra rise (for me) is more important.
Also allowed me to keep the nice colour matched stem my bike came with whilst giving me the position I wanted. Win win 8)
Ehats the difference to just using a stem with a bit more rise?
Looks 8)
My stem is already in the upright position and as high on the steerer tube as it can go.
Option A: Silly looking 45 degree stem
Option B: Slightly less silly looking (IMO) bars with rise built in.
The price of an average stem vs. the price of the Specialized Hover Bars suggests a cost of £25 for vanity.
I aim to put them on my Diverge, which could be a lighter frame, or do I just cave in and buy a Sequoia?
RM, the ones on the Sequoia are S.A.G Hovers, not the same bars, these haven't got any flare.
I have the ones in the picture on an old ti hardtail. I really like them. I have never had compact bars before and really like the shape. As has been said, it was hard to get the 44cm ones. Might be easier now though. I used them with Tektro v brake levers and a bar end shifter and now have a drop bar hardtail that weighs about 20 pounds. I used them to make my own version of a Cannondale Slate without having an ugly steep stem. It's lighter and more fun than my road bike.
More aero and means the inflexible don't have to have an ugly daft stem.
Bought for the latter obvs.
Cheers everyone.
I do like them, any thoughts on other similar bars though?
What tapes are people using on gravel bike bars, as a wider question
Are the flared bars available to order then, or do they just come on the Sequoia? Again, wondering about putting some on the Diverge.
The Spesh Adventure Gear Hovers weren't available after market when I last enquired (around christmas).
Tape wise I've been using Cinelli gel pads under wiggles lifeline pro tape, nice and grippy. Smootape XL is is worth looking out for if you want lots of cushioning. It also lasts really well.
Yes, I have a set (with 25mm rise); they're great. It means I can slam my stem, which looks so much better. They haven't stopped me nodding my head when I ride though.
I have just put some on my new Cotic Escapade build. Love them.
The gel pads that came with the original bars may be able to be used.
Is the centre of the bar straight, if that makes sens. I need to mount my Hope light over the centre, if that makes sense.
If anybody is after a set of the flared ones, Mud Dock in Bristol had a pair for sale for About £15 or £20 at the last couple of bike jumbles. They may still have them.
There's flat area either side of the stem, before the bars sweep up.
I have my USE Joystick mounted in there, and Specialised claim there's space for aero bars
Rocky Mountain, I mount my hope light in the middle of mine, on my Sequoia, just fine.

I've had to fit a pair because my stem was so slammed I was worried the drops would make contact with the tyre when turning. They set off my top tube bag nicely, though.

How would this happen, did you forget to do the steerer bolts back up when slamming your stem? 😉

Back to some of your best work, David.

Can still happen when leaning over in turns.
Apart from looking very cool, how they improve things? I was tryying to work this out at 7.20 am this morning as I set off to work on the bike.
Is it beacuse I am bored at looking at the bars 10 hours a week, trying to find a different position?
If they had sweep backwards I could understand?
