My lower headset bearings are on their way out. Been trying to find out identify them and replace them. The upper cup is marked Cane Creeek VP-a626acm2. There is nothing coming back via google or on Cane Creek website.

This afternoon I even took the unusal(for me)step of ringing the Specialized Store in Chester to see if they could help but all they could offer was to order replacement from the Big Spesh at the princely sum of £30. Which I duly baulked at. The bearing race itself is not marked and I can't find anything on any Specialized site.

Can anyone help me out, surely someone on here must have replaced these bearings without shelling out £30?

Well from the website is an integrated headset - 1-1/8" Threadless Top, 1 1/2" lower, Campy style.

So its tapered integraged italian - ISi

Exactly - clear as the mud that's caused these bearings to begin to falter...It's the actual cartridge bearing I need to replace there doesnt appear to be a cup in the frame at the bottom...

There is no cup - its integrated - Just bearing carts with crownrace/seal bottom and topcap & Seal top.

Just order: SHIS:IS52/40 - 1.5" Integrated (IS) and SHIS:IS42 - 1-1/8" Italian Integrated (ISi) Threadless

If you are convinced that the headset is CC (i.e. will fit topcap/collar and crown race then get:

The CC finder told me I had to contact Specialized themselves as there was no standard for the the frame. The Campy style apparently refers to the top not the bottom cup...

Hmm - yes the writing suggests asking Spesh 🙁 Hmm - have you emailed spesh tech support - they are usually very helpful IME

I do not have a clue what you mean by that, and no way other than pure guesswork to choose between them...can anyone just tell me what bearings to order? I think you know Foxyrider and are just trying to tease me like a wise teacher toying with their rash, impulsive young charge....(for this to work you'll need to be pushing on a bit - I'm 38 you know)

LOL - It looks like from the CC headset finder that the top bearing is a std 1 1/8 IS42 (42 is a size in mm outerdiam IIRC) - The bottom is non-std IS52 (outer diam 52mm but non-std for some reason)?

I can't easily find a single IS42 CC compatible bearing online myself - as to the IS52 non-std - god only knows - contact spesh direct would be my suggestion as I expect you'll have to order them direct through spesh?

I ended up getting them from Specialized concept store in Chester...had to buy the entire Spesh proprietary headset for about £40...turns out to share the same headset as the road bike Tarmac, so you could search for that if it makes things easier...
