I wen into Edinburgh bikes today for a wee look as my bike is out of action until my new wheels come, and was looking at the 2011 full sussers from specialized and thought that all the frames look awfully similar to each other. has anyone else noticed this and what do you think of them?
i know what you mean. as an owner and fan of the earlier specialized bikes i now find that the colour schemes and frame deigns totaly put me off buying another, i think they look minging
I really liked the bend in the down tube on the original pitch because it was different from the rest, and now they all have it.
I wouldn't have said the frames were anymore similar looking to other brands - like the Fuel EX & the Remedy.
I do think the paintjobs could do some work - although the 2011 ones are looking better than last yrs.
Shouldn't this really be a good thing? If every different travel frame has a different system on it and shapes shouldn't you perhaps be worried that the makers don't know what they are doing?
I have to say that for me Spesh paint jobs have been terrible for a few years now while I think Trek have improved.
It would perhaps be nice if the graphics/paint colours on the Epic/Camber/Stumpy/Enduro had family resemblance but differentiated each model family. However different frame/suspension designs would for me be worrying. Suspension is now reaching a maturity of design so differentiation is going to be less than it was 15 years ago when no one really knew what they were doing.
They should have stuck with the colours they knew best:
Red.

Maybe they got the guy who use to work for Kawasaki, the one who decided in the earlier noughts to do any colour but Kawasaki green!

Saw one of those down at Ashton Court after the Oktoberfest, fantastic looking bike. I really like the Stumpy Evo too, but thats more because of its build/spec, that it happens to look good is a bonus.
Nae I dnt mean they are minging, i juts think it is a bit odd that they are all so similar!

It's called a family resemblance or a brand identity. All BMWs look the same and nobody complains about that.....
Yeah the white carpet, It was new when that photo was taken. "that bloody bike is never allowed in the house again!"
I managed to get it in the hallway for the odd tweak.
I think the majority of them look pants, too much red/White, they need to try something new! The Epic Evo does look good, as does the Camber with the green bits, but most look pants IMO.
Janesy, that looks fantastic- should be in a design show. I'm not sure about it (my own taste) though. Wierd yet nice but too wierd for poor me!
Specialized as a brand started going downhill with their bike design in about 09 late 08.
I have a specialized P2, they made one more nice P2 in 09 and then the 2010 and 2011 P bikes just look like that kid thats so ugly you make him live in the attic and feed on fish heads.
As for the full sus. even in 08 they were showing signs of uglyness.
The argument is that its all for practicality...but i'm sure it can be a good bike and pretty at the same time.
Also, if you want to be put off cycling of any sorts for the rest of your life feel free to google the P24.
I am not fun of Specialized bikes really, far too many of them around but I saw the Expert Evo at my local bike store and thought it looked fantastic. If I was after a new bike I'd be seriously considering one!

It rides ok though and that's the main thing 😉
