Looking at Stumpjumper hardtails but I can't work out why the 2015 Expert is £3800 vs the Comp @ £2000

Taking rough retail prices the difference in spec seems to be:

Carbon Rovals (not SLs) vs aluminium Rovals - £450 difference
SIDs vs REBAS - £300 difference?
Carbon SRAM crank vs SRAM aluminium crank - £100 difference
XTR rear mech vs XT - £60
SRAM 1050 vs 1030 cassette - £10
Brakes, shifters, front mech, tyres, saddle, stem, bars - same £0
Fact 10 vs Fact 9 frame - couple of quid??

The slight frame upgrade can't account for the remaining £880 or so. What am I missing?

Wheels; carbon on the Expert. EDIT: Possibly more than £300 differential on the forks?

I've got £450 down as the difference between the the Carbon Rovals at £900 and the aluminium ones at £450.

Yeah there is probably a premium on the Brain version of the SIDs

If you can't tell the difference you don't need the expert.

Sorry missed the wheels.

Its all down to the colour; red is prettier - and faster.

This is true. If I can't work it out soon I'm off to the Canyon site again

I think this may also be true

If you do, make sure you come back to tell us about the test ride. Oh, and the bike fit and set up service.

Agreed - those things are not to be discounted.
EDIT: It is really the differences between the Specializeds that is perplexing me

Also, let us know about the money you saved not having those things built into the price.

I thought £3800 was stupid money for a hard tail and then I noticed there is also the S-Works at £7,500.

Manufacturers will sometimes have top end products that they rarely sell but adding it to the range makes the next model down suddenly seem reasonable. The reason you get concept bikes and super high end kit.
