Crank Brothers Candy 3's and specialized shoes. Find somewhere you can try the shoes on, you don't want to go ultra stiff but stiff enough.

I decided to go back to clipless recently. got some Time Atac pedals and a pair of Giro Chambers. the shoes are absolutely great, really solid but comfortable and relatively light. pedals are shit.

There were some XTR spuds in the classifieds recently for a good price. I have the same ones. I'd go for something like that with some Specialized BG sport shoes.

For general riding I'm currently using Shimano M089 shoes and a set of M530 pedals. They're probably the best shoe / pedal combo I've had for a while.
