Mountain bike race on a Plain.

The course has always been a dull drag when I have done it. Nice people though.

Well organised but better suited to CX bikes IMO. I saw a fella on a Boardman road bike with semi-knob tyres. I felt a bit stupid riding my 30lb 5" FS trail bike with fat, sticky tyres, two rings and bashguard! Still, the weather was nice and a ride is a ride.

A fine event as ever from the SPAM people who are, as WCA said, ever so nice - thanks for kicking off my new decade of events!

To the guy from Frome that I was talking to, drop me a line if you want to, to hook up for some rides - I was the one just moved to Zummerzet, near Bruton, still piecing together new loops 🙂

Hope everyone has a great 2010.

i thought the set2rise (also started out ofErlestoke) was pretty interesting and noodly/fun/technical in places. Did they leave those bits out cos its winter?

I enjoyed a well organised day out in fantastic conditions; but as others have said the course was technically very tame with lots of road. It was worth it for the cake at the finish though 🙂

Yes the singletrack was left out to keep the wooded areas in as good condition as possible for the MOD/Landmarc and to enable us to run future events (particularly the Set2Rise!!). Also we have to put the route into Landmarc 8 weeks prior to the date and we cannot predict what the Winter will throw at us, so 830 riders churning up the local woods would not go down well with the people we have to liase with.

Glad everyone had a great day, so nice to be out in the sun!

Thanks to everyone who took part today from all of us at SPAMBiking 😀

Just wondering do they post people's times on their website? (I know it only finished a few hours ago!) Just like to know my exact time.

Ouch that hurt me..

3 months of no riding ending in 2 weeks of getting drunk and late nights...i thought the 2 hrs sleep i had last night would be fine for a spin on the plain..

Note to self, don't be a silly fool and prep like this then turn up on a ss.

Thanks too all organisers, volunteers and riders.

Great weather & Scenery and very well organised event.

I also should probably not have turned up on an SS as I got frustrated by people passing me on the tarmac, but eventually relaxed and enjoyed just enjoyed the scenery!

Anyone on as SS get a better time than 2:37?

The last descent was great fun! 🙂
Quite suitable for a CX bike, but suitable MTB's were quicker.

On my way to 151st male 50km...

[img] [/img]

...although, as always, I have my suspicions that not everyone who got back before me did the full 50km. 😐

Really?

I can see where your coming from as i hear this happens on these loop free events, but really can't see what anyone gains from it apart from lack of honest achievement and being a fake.

I most definitely passed a few people twice (I was only doing the 35km)

To be fair one pair was a father/ young son who were pushing when I passed them the first time, and pushing when I passed them a second time. Can't have been much fun walking most of the course....

I too saw the same father and son twice during the 50km, both had the 50km number boards too...but to be fair on them in particlar i'd not of dragged my young child all around that course if he stopped enjoying it.

Perhaps there were others too and i didn't do a badly as i did...

Amazed I came 17/117 on the 25km. I only stopped once to nurse some feeling back into my balls (looked a bit dodgy 😆 ) Probably means I should have suffered the 50km like the rest of you. But I had a date with a pub-lunch!

Well I finished just before 11:50 and set off for home by 12:00, home by 12:55. By 13:30 we were at the table 🙂

I offer my backup excuse - Saturday's 2 hour Mendip ride weakened me.

I spoke too one lady rider and she'd done a 4hr ride on the Brecons on the sat....seems that we're all a bunch of nutters.

Thanks to all that bought and ate cake from the Dorothy House stand. They've counted up their takings and made about £475, which they are obviously pleased with.
....but, you left enough for us to pig-out on whilst tidying up!
